Finding peace in music

For some people music is the only thing that makes them feel alive. After the passing of his father, Hans Zimmer made music his best friend. Born in Germany, Hans learned to play the piano when he was a young child. He later kicked off his career in the 1970s by playing the synthesizers and keyboards with the band, Krakota. Zimmer then partnered with the new wave group, The Buggles and before long, he was seen jamming with Krisma. He also collaborated with Mecano, the Damned and Shriekback in his early years in the music industry.

Hans Zimmer then decided to move to London where he began to pen down advertising jingles for the associates of Air-Edel. He then met the prolific film composer, Stanley Myers and together, they started to fuse electronic instruments with orchestral sound. The duo also contributed music to films like, ‘Insignificance,’ ‘Moonlighting’ and ‘Success is the Best Revenge.’ In 1987, Hans Zimmer made his debut as a solo score producer by contributing his efforts to films, ‘The Last Emperor’ and ‘Terminal Exposure.’ He also composed the theme song for the British television game show, ‘Going for Gold’ in the same year with Sandy McClelland.

Reaching for the stars

Hans Zimmer got his big breakthrough when he was asked to write the score of the 1988 film, ‘Rain Man.’ He used steel drums and synthesizers in the score. The film was met with unprecedented success and garnered four Academy Awards including one in the category of the ‘Best Picture.’ Hans Zimmer’s score also earned him a nomination for an Academy Award in 1989. One year later, he was hired to write the score of Bruce Beresford Golden Globe winning film, ‘Driving Miss Daisy.’

Hans Zimmer established his name in the business before the  new millennium and rose to fame when he wrote music for, ‘The Lion King’ in 1994. His work earned him a couple of Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for the ‘Best Original Score.’ After that, he kept on entertaining the world with his masterpieces and also worked as a score producer on films like, ‘Antz,’ ‘Endurance’ and ‘With Friends Like These…’ among others.

Ruling the 2000s

2000 got off to a great start for Hans Zimmer as he composed music for four films in the year including, ‘Gladiator’ which won him his second Golden Globe Award in the category of the ‘Best Original Score.’ A year later, Hans was seen composing for films like, ‘Pearl Harbor,’ ‘Invincible’ and ‘The Pledge.’ Soon, Hans Zimmer’s demand as a score producer increased and it seemed everybody wanted him to work on their films. He did just that and composed music for many successful films like, ‘Batman Begins,’ ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ ‘The Dark Knight,’ ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ ‘Rush,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ among others.

Hans Zimmer most recently provided scores to flicks like, ‘Kung Fu Panda 3,’ ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Inferno.’ The four time Satellite Award winning composer is now embarking on a tour and will soon be captivating you with his music in venues like, the Park Theater Monte Carlo, Microsoft Theater and the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
