Beginning his career only recently as a conductor, Gustav Dudamel currently enjoys a niche position in the world of classical music. Before pursuing the music-composition career, Dudamel pursued his studies music. He was learning to compose while attending numerous music schools/academies. His carried his parents’ genes and musical talent; his mother a vocal teacher and his father a trombone player. He began practicing music when he was hardly ten by attending violin lessons. Also he took up academic education in a government-sponsored music program offered by his school. During his youth he got violin education from Jacinto Lara Conservatory with José Luis Jiménez and from Latin American Violin Academy with José Francisco del Castillo. After violin training, he shelled under his first inspirational mentor Rodolfo Saglimbeni. Next in line he joined José Antonio Abreu; Abreu became his biggest inspiration for him and paved way for greater success in his future career.
Following his education, Dudamel was appointed a music director of Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar. This experience helped him master his skills and also conduct numerous regular concerts. Meanwhile he also discovered the magic and charm of touring. Once he started concert tours abroad, he became more and more frequently engaged. He loved touring as it gave him a chance to teach people and culture different from him own, while learning from them.
Gustav Dudamel stepped into the professional career of composing in 2005. With a strong formal training, academic background and phenomenal conduction skills, he became the most sought-after conductor at the age of 30. At the dawn of the new millennium be became the first music director of the prestigious The Los Angeles Philharmonic. Before he had been with the 'Gotherburg Symphony Orchestra' in 2007, but joined the LA Phil in 2009. He stayed there for a year and during this time proved himself a real maestro.
Dudamel has acted as a socially responsible musician. He served as a conductor of Venezuelan National Youth Orchestra, also known as the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar solely for the purpose of helping youth get akin to classical music and develop a liking and understanding for it. A couple of other orchestras that he served were Chicago Symphony, City of Birmingham Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Dresdon State Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic amongst many others.
Dudamel also excelled in numerous conducting competitions where he outshined most of the time. The 2004 Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition in Bamberg, Germany was one of the competitions where his win stirred waves. Sometime later many invitations started coming in for Dudamel to join some of the world's most celebrated orchestras. In 2005 he signed Deutsche Grammophon and a year later gave Beethoven Symphonies No.5 and 7 with the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar.
Currently, Gustav Dudamel is working as the music director of Venezuela's Simón Bolívar Symphony orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic.
