Ground Up is a hip-hop band based in Philadelphia. The group comprises of three artists including producer Bij Lincs who is known for his eccentric style and unparalleled musical talent that compliments the bandís quick wordplay and well-thought lyrics including the groupís two MCís MALAKAI and AZAR. In the summer of 2008 while still studying at TempleUniversity in North Philadelphia, Ground Up began to take form. It was during education years that Alexander Azar and Malcolm McDowell first met not knowing they would become band members and be known as Azar and Malakai, respectively. The duo realized they had potential in making good hip hop, and soon began working on track while still on campus. Bin Lincs, who is an old friend of Azar, was brought in as their exclusive producer, and the three members officially formed a band. Within three years, the group has released nine mix tapes, each of which has been received has contributed as a subject of town talk. The bandís popularity continues to grow as well-known producers take interest in their work. Artist from the likes of Dirty Harry, Ritz Reynolds and Mike Jerz have guest-produced on the bandís songs. Other artists who have collaborated with Ground Up on several of their mix tapes are Jaguar Wright, Freeway, Chad Ginsburg and Peedi Crakk.
The success of Ground Up is no surprise given their constant hard work in establishing themselves as a significant national band. Malakai has expressed that the group plans on only expanding their base of business relationships and fans further, which in turn reflect on the groupís mission to contribute positively to the music and culture of the hip hop genre in its entirety.
