Musical Roots & Early Years
Gregory LeNoir Allman is a Nashville-born songwriter/singer, musician and occasional actor. Gregg’s elder brother Duane inspired him to become a musician and they both started composing and playing together from a young age. Together the brothers formed ‘The Hour Glass’ and signed on with Liberty Records in the early 60s. However, due to the ensemble not achieving success, first Duane and then Gregg left.
The Allman Brothers Band
After leaving ‘The Hour Glass’, Duane and Gregg created ‘The Allman Brothers’ in 1969. They released 3 studio albums in between 1969 and 1971 and after the untimely death of Duane Allman, Gregg decided to carry on his legacy and as a result continued to release music up till 2014 after which the band announced retirement. Overall, as The Allman Brothers, Gregg has released 18 studio albums (5 platinum releases and 11 gold records) and are ranked among ‘The Greatest Artist of All Time’ (Rolling Stone).
