Grand Funk Railroad Schedule 2017-18
Grand Funk Railroad have played a big role in the development of rock n roll over the decades. The greatest strength of the band has been their direct connection with their fans. Despite never being a favorite of music critics, the Railroad was able to defy the odds based on the love and admiration of their fans. They stuck to the simple formula of making music they love and what fans adore. This worked wonders, as they were able to sell multi-platinum album after album.
The band’s best moment came with We are an American band, an anthem that made them a part of the American popular culture. Their imprint on the early forms of hard rock and electric blues is very deep. Some of the biggest bands over the next few decades cite GFR’s work as a major inspiration. These include such gifted acts like Kiss and Van Halen. It’s even simpler to measure their success over the years by the sheer number of chart topping albums that they have produced. Grand Funk, Closer to Home, Survival, E Pluribus Funk and We're an American Band are all albums that went multi-platinum and reached the top ten in the US charts. Of course there is a long list of gold albums and hit singles as well!
The current lineup of Grand Funk Railroad is indeed awesome. Don Brewer is quite simply a legend on drums; a favorite amongst the rock n roll fans as well as the critics. He etched his name in the annals of classic rock history when he wrote, sang and played drums on one of the most popular rock anthems of all time, We’re An American Band. The song was responsible for taking GFR to the very top of the commercial charts. Over the years Don has been acknowledged and celebrated. He was inducted into various halls of fame, featured in countless musical publications and featured on top TV shows like Good Morning America, David Letterman and Jay Leno.
Known to the army of fans as "The God of Thunder", Mel Schacher is the genius behind the distinctive GFR’s bass sound. He pioneered the style of bass that was much bolder and aggressive, leading some critics to branding it ‘lead bass’. Mel has created a lasting rock n roll bass guitar legacy than inspired many bands of the late seventies.
Grand Funk Railroad singer Max Carl has been a great rock n roll & soul singer for more than three decades now. Apart from being the front man for GFR he has sung with some of the all-time greats like Bonnie Raitt, Elton John and Dusty Springfield. A number of his songs have been featured on hit television shows as well as block buster movies, some of which include Police Academy, Weird Science and Miami Vice. Max has been touring with GFR for more than twelve years now.
Bruce Kulick, the lead guitarist on GFR is a Rock n Roll royalty. He has been the lead guitarist for some of the biggest bands in rock history including Meatloaf, Kiss and BlackJack(with Michael Bolton). Bruce was associated with Kiss for twelve years before Don Brewer nudged him over to the GFR’s side. Bruce has now been touring with GFR as their lead guitarist for more than a decade now. Having Bruce on the GFR lineup and see him play live with the other legends in the band is indeed a rare treat.
Tim Cashion is the on tour keyboards and synth player on this star studded Grand Funk Railroad lineup. He has a Master’s degree in music from the Miami school of music. Cushion found his calling in touring with rock n roll’s big boys. He has toured with Robert Palmer, Jon Secada, Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band and now is a part of the much celebrated current lineup of GFR.
