With music and a persona as delicate and ethereal sounding as her name, Grace Woodroofe is slowly and steadily unfolding her misty melodies all across the music world's undergrowth. Discovered some six years ago by another native of her hometown Perth in the Land Down Under, none other than the late Heath Ledger himself, Grace has since been winning hearts all over with her sultry vocals and subtle lilts. Keeping herself grounded in indie blues, Grace Woodroofe's crooning has the ability to draw in listeners, much like the title of her track "Quicksand" that was the first to get a video rendering. Her debut album Always Want, whose release was delayed by the tragic and inexplicable death of her mentor Heath, finally came out in a chilly start to 2012. Get some Grace Woodroofe tickets to be seduced by her melancholic melodies.

It all started when Grace Woodroofe wasn't even in her senior year at high school. Already being a self-taught guitar player and singer, a sixteen year-old Grace uploaded two of her songs on the Australian based triple j's Unearthed competition that has been serving the local and international music community since 1995 in discovering Aussie musical talent. These postings led to her friend Ashley Ledger convincing her famous and influential brother to give a listen. After garnering airplay with her demo on the Triple J station the same year, Grace found herself being signed on to Masses Music Co. through Heath, who also directed the video for "Quicksand" that was a cover of the David Bowie's eponymous number. Grace credits Heat Ledger as having pulled off the entire video literally from start to finish, everything from conceptualizing it to shooting and directing it to even styling and editing the whole thing. Grace fondly recalls him being a great inspiration to her due to his selflessness and approachable demeanor. Heath then flew Grace out to Los Angeles and introduced her to all the key people that he deemed would facilitate her entering the US market, especially the Grammy-winning singer/producer extraordinaire Ben Harper. And enter it she did when she finally released her album Always Want in January 2012, with Harper producing the whole shebang.

After her initial trip to the US in 2007, Grace worked towards completing her studies in Perth before returning to California the following year to pursue a full-fledged career in music. Working with Ben Harper in El Dorado Studios, often putting in all-night recording sessions, she bonded closely with his explosive band Relentless 7, coming to identify the band member as her brothers. The actual songwriting was an exercise in self-retrospection for Grace Woodroofe who would use the surreal darkness of the early morning to probe her inner psyche and let the songs emanate from within her emotional recesses. Then, lending her signature uncannily mellowed huskiness, surprising for her relatively young age, she sculpted the undulating soundscape of her album, with the opening number “I’ve Handled Myself Wrong” attempting to burrow through the listener's initial skepticism and pervade the senses.

However, it's not all caressing crooning with Grace Woodroofe, for songs such as "Transformer" and the title track "Always Want" uncouple from the otherwise gentle rhythm and unleash a fury and frenzy that powers itself through with distortion and heavy riffs, getting extra boost from a staccato bass afterburner. She also draws upon her musical influences that range from the brash outpourings of The Beatles to the jazzy effluences of Nina Simone.

Following her recording phase with Relentless 7, Grace Woodroofe performed several shows that pitched high-profile club gigs with more intimate ones in LA as well as pulling off sold out events back home in Perth with equal aplomb.  2008 saw her pair up again with Relentless 7, however this time on the road, as well as performing as the Byron bay Blues and Roots Festival the following year in Australia. In 2010, Grace decided to go down to the grassroots and played at the Australian Splendor in the Grass festival and was joined by Ben Harper and his orchestral gang to serenade 30,000 attendees with "I've Handled Myself Wrong ". This is one girl that flaunts her "sugar & spiciness" to the hilt, so book some Grace Woodroofe tickets now to be regaled by her quixotic tunes and heady melodies.
