Lightfoot was interested in music from an early age and started performing while he was in grade four. In his teenage years, he learned piano and started playing concerts at a resort in Muskoka. He performed extensively during his high school years and learned folk guitar. In 1962, he achieved commercial success with his single “I’m the One” which charted at number three. He debuted in 1966 with the release of his self-titled album which was followed by his sophomore album, “The Way I Feel.”
His mainstream success came in 1967 when “Black Day in July” came out. His first album to chart at number one on Canadian Albums Chart was “Don Quixote” released in 1972. Lightfoot has released a total of nineteen studio albums and has sold around seven million records worldwide. He is the winner seventeen Juno Awards and the Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee. Among his most famous songs include “Ribbon of Darkness,” “Rainy Day People,” and “Carefree Highway” to name a few.
