Tillbrook was born in Woolwich, London in August 1957. He started to learn to play the guitar and piano when he was only six years old. When he was thirteen years old he took part in a local talent show, which was his first experience of performing publically. He along with Chris Difford, were the founding members of the British band "Squeeze". Difford came up with the lyrics while Tillbrook composed the songs.
Squeeze first went on a hiatus from 1983 to 1985. During that time, Difford and Tillbrook continued to work together. They churned up twenty one UK hit singles and their names headlined a concert at New York's twenty thousand seat Madison Square Garden. Tillbrook released an album with his song writing partner by the name of "Difford&Tilbrook" in 1984.
A year later the band reunited for a one night charity gig. The overwhelming response to their performance led the band to consider touring as Squeeze once again. The band continued to perform for fourteen years, from 1985 to 1999, during which they released seven albums. As Squeeze disbanded once again, Glenn Tillbrook’s love for music pushed him to pursue a solo career.
He toured the United Kingdom and the United States in an RV, playing at small gigs and venues. He released two solo albums as well. The first album, titled "The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook" was released in 2001. It was the first time Tillbrook recorded without Chris Difford. Produced by Tillbrook himself along with Andy Metcalfe, the album’s initial copies were sold with a bonus acoustic album recording of the same songs.
His second album came out in 2004 and was named "Transatlantic Ping Pong". It also featured the neat tunes and harmonies that one had begun to associate with Tillbrook. With influences of modern music such as beat box rhythms the album tried to cater to an age group that hadn’t seen Tillbrook in his prime. Largely narrating stories of real people, Tillbrook talked about his own experiences as well in the songs, from his failed endeavors to childhood friends.
In 2006, a touching documentary was made about Tillbrook. "Glenn Tilbrook: One for the Road". The documentary suggests that the achievements of Tillbrook shouldn’t be gauged by the number of people attending his concert. It encases his story from the highs to the lows.
Tillbrook became a part of Squeeze once again in 2007, when the band toured across America. "Pandemonium Ensues", was another album that Tillbrook worked on and was released in 2009. "The Fluffers", a new band with fresh music provided backing music in the album.
