The band consists of a musical duo, both hailing from Texas. Thomas Ross Turner is on the keyboards, drums, and provides background vocals, while Aaron Kyle Behrens is the lead vocalist, who plays the guitar. The duo started off in 2004 in what is described as a contract between the two to make soul-stirring music. The contract was to simply make awesome music, easy on the ears, pleasing the hearts and souls of their rock n` roll fans. Commitment to making great music aside, success has come their way only with extreme hard work, spending hours in the studio. Perhaps for this reason alone, they have stirred up frenzy amongst their fans from the east coast to the west, with their electrifying live performances! Ghostland Observatory’s debut album was "delete.delete.i.eat.meat", which was released in 2005 by Trashy Moped Recordings. In fact, all of their albums have been released under the banner of this record label. The album was a success, both commercially and critically. Some of the hot songs from the album were, "Victory Lap", "Rich Man", "Silver City", and "Candy Rider". In 2006, the band released their second album, Paparazzi Lightning. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, it too, was a successful album. Spin magazine rated it with 3 ½ stars out of 5. The fans were overjoyed to hear fresh material from their favorite band. Some of their favorite numbers from the album were, "Midnight Voyage", "Paparazzi Lightning", "Sad Sad City", "All You Rock & Rollers", and "Piano Man".

"Robotique Majestique" was released in 2008. It carried unforgettable numbers like "Club Soda", "HFM", "Robotique Majestique", "Freeheart Lover", and "Opening Credits". While commercially a success, it also won praise from critics like Popmatters which gave the album 7 out of 10 stars. However, the band’s latest album to date has won them most praise both from the fans and critics. Codename: Rondo was released in 2010. The Wall Street Journal while praising the release of the album commented on the band in the following words: "…. the duo Ghostland Observatory revels in unpredictability…. Comparisons to Daft Punk are apt to a degree, but there’s really no act like them." The album had hit singles like "Kick Clap Speaker", "Mama", "Body Shop", "Give Me the Beat", "Codename Rondo", and "Glitter".

Ghostland Observatory has made numerous appearances on television and has repeatedly participated in music festivals all over the nation. They have been the most sought after band in Austin City Limits Music Festival. One of their performances at the Festival is particularly worth mentioning. While the duo played their famous "The Band Marches On", the University of Texas marching band marched on stage with a lights out performance. It was simply spectacular, says those who were present in the audience stands. The band members have often been compared with other great musicians by the music critics. Lead vocalist, Behrens has been compared with the legendary Prince and Freddie Mercury. This is because of Behrens unique stage performances and singing style. His partner, Turner is said to be heavily influenced by The Clash, David Bowie, The Animals, Green Velvet, Laurent Garnier, and Daft Punk. This perfect combination of electronic and rock artists clearly reflects in his work. His appreciation of music from diverse genres has enabled him to blend in the best from both, and the outcome has been in the form of a great drummer.

Ghostland Observatory’s music is often described as "electro-dance soul rock". In short, it is party music with heavy elements of rock added to it. Party music means it is time to party!
