George Benjamin who has been honored as the Commander of the British Empire, is an acclaimed composer of the classical music genre. The London Symphony Orchestra initiated a season filled with magnanimous festivals of concerts in 2002-2003, in which Benjamin took part in as "By George!" The first opera oriented work of his was titled as Into the Little Hill. This work was in affiliation with the acclaimed playwright named Martin Crimp. The opera was inaugurated at the Festival d’Automne which was in Paris in 2006. The opera production received rave reviews and has been effectively touring on both ends of the Atlantic. In February in 2009, the opera got its London premier hosted at the Royal Opera House.

The latest project of George Benjamin has been another opera by the title of Written on Skin. This is a libretto written by Martin Crimp and has been bespoke via the Aix-en-Provence Festival, where it was fruitfully premiered in the summer of 2012. Many performances of this opera were held at Wiener Festwochen, Covent Garden, in Toulouse at the famed Theatre du Capitole, La Scala in Milan, Bavarian State Opera, and the Netherlands Opera. He has been a trainer as well as a mentor for young yet brilliant composers like Dai Fujikura and Luke Bedford.
