G Love and Special Sauce started their musical career from Philadelphia in 1992. The founding members of the band, Garrett Dutton and the drummer Jeffrey Clemens met at a local bar in Boston and hit it off immediately. This was the beginning of their musical alliance. Garrett Dutton used G Love as his musical alias, which became the basis of their band name. They were later on joined by bassist Jim Prescott to formally call it G Love and Special Sauce.

The band was a hit from the release of their debut album. The album made it big on MTV and leaving a noticeable impact on the MTV audiences. The album was an Okeh Records release which almost reached the gold status on the MTV’s Song. Their next album “Coast to Coast Motel” failed to make the same kind of commercial impression but was regarded superior in terms of the music. According to AllMusic the album was a “definite improvement …they have found their groove”.


Subsequent to the release of this album, the band set out on an extensive touring schedule. During this time they performed at some of the major musical events including H.O.R.D.E. Tour. In that tour, G Love and Special Sauce developed some differences and decided to go under a hiatus. G Love continued working on creating his own music as a collaborating artist. The other members of the band also got involved in their side project. The year 1997 dawned upon on a positive note for the band, as they reconciled to release Yeah, It's That Easy. The album featured the collaborative work that G Love was working on as well as some new numbers exclusively by Special Sauce.

The collaborating band in Yeah, It’s that Easy were Dr. John, King's Court, Philly Cartel and All Fellas Band. In this album they tried to recreate the same soul inspired impact which made them popular in their first album. The album earned decent ratings on the charts and the band went on another World Tour. This tour spawned a wider fan following for their music all across the world.
 
In 1999, they returned to their native city for the release of their fourth album Philadelphonic. This has been considered as one of their most successful albums till date. Philadelphonic was basically a rock based album edging around other genres like funk, hip-hop, psychedelic, soul and blues. This album was reflection of their exploratory journey in music. The album scored a top ranking on the Billboard charts and established them as one of the finest artists of their genre. Their musical exploration continued with “Electric Mile” which was a follow up of their album “Philadelphonic”. They have released a number of albums afterward along with “The Best of G Love and Special Sauce”

They have recently come up with their new release Fixin' to Die. The album is anticipated to bring back the excitement and fun which makes this band so popular. The founding duo G Love and Jeffrey Clemens have teamed up with Timo Shanko and Mark Boyce to come up with highly creative musical pieces.
