For rock music lovers all around the world it doesn’t get any better than watching Furthur performing live. Furthur was formed by two former members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir from the band “Grateful Dead”. Rock fans need to grab Furthur tickets to watch this amazing band in action with their very own eyes.
The history about the formation of Furthur is very interesting. Jerry Garcia passed away in 1995 and his death officially signaled the end of “Grateful Dead” but the members of the band kept on performing separately for a number of years in various other bands such as Rhythm Devils, The Dead, RatDog and Phil Lesh and Friends. In 2008 The Dead performed for Obama’s campaign not once but twice and the shows were called “Change Rocks” and “Deadheads for Obama.” They also went on to perform at one of Obama inauguration balls and that ball along with the two shows laid the foundations of a spring tour in 2009. It was during this tour that Lesh and Weir, who had always enjoyed working together, decided to form Furthur in August 2009. Other members of the band were Russo, Lane, Kadlecik and Chimenti. The name of the band is inspired from the 1939 International Harvester psychedelic multi-colored bus which was used by the famous novelist Ken Kesey for his tour of America in 1964.
The band has kept true to the ethos of the Grateful Dead even after so many years. From the styling to the texture of the music nothing has changed. Furthur has played a lot of songs by the Grateful Dead and some of those songs were not even released to the masses before the band disbanded. However, they keep their collection fresh by routinely adding their own new songs to the collection and have gone on to play a lot of cover songs from other bands like Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones. The Clash, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd. The band debut performance was at the Fox Theatre in Oakland on September 18, 19 and 20, 2009. They also performed for one night only in a two hundred seating capacity venue at 19 Broadway Fairfax, CA. That show was arranged at a very short notice and Furthur tickets for that show were available at the door of the venue on a first come first serve basis. The performances in Oakland provided more impetus to the band and they went on to do live rehearsals, five more concerts and two separate New Year gigs in San Francisco and Mill Valley.
More live rehearsal sessions followed in 2010 and the band went on a US tour again at the beginning of that year from February till March. Soon after that tour Jay Lane left the band followed soon after by Zoe Ellis. Jeff Pehrson then joined Furthur as a backup vocalist. 2010 was a hectic year for the band as they did numerous concerts and live rehearsals along with more tours of the country and capped off the year with two different New Year shows. 2011 wasn’t any different from 2010 as the band had scheduled more shows, appearances at festivals, live rehearsals to thrill their fans with their stunning music. The one thing different in 2011 from 2010 was that the band went on to perform online in High Definition via the internet to its fans from a virtual venue called Tamalpais Research Institute(TRI). TRI was Weir’s brainchild and the band played thirteen songs back to back without any break for their fans in HD video. All the fans had to do was subscribe to the pay-per-view for US$ 19.95. This was a ground breaking attempt by Further enabling their fans to watch them live right from their homes and the effort got its just rewards by getting a lot of positive feedback from the fans.
