Frightened Rabbit is a Scottish indie rock and folk music band from Selkrik in Scotland that has been active since 2003, churning out popular songs and albums. Frightened Rabbit ’s members today number lead vocalist Scott Hutchison, bassist and guitarist Billy Kennedy, keyboardist and guitarist Gordon Skene and guitarist Andy Monaghan. Based today in Glasgow, its first album was released in 2006. Since then, it has released two more albums, with a third set released in 2013. Their debut album was titled Sing the Greys and was followed by The Midnight Organ Fight in 2008 and The Winter of Mixed Drinks in 2010. An EP, titled State Hospital, was released in 2012, to much acclaim.
Frightened Rabbit began in 2003 as the solo project of lead singer Scott Hutchison, with the name taken from a nickname his mother gave him. The project turned into a band when his brother Grant Hutchison joined as a drummer in 2004 and Billy Kennedy joined as a drummer in 2006. During its earliest years, the band was known for sending free demos with biscuits to fans who requested them, leading to an unforgettable experience for many a fan.
In 2006, Frightened Rabbit ’s first album was released and in 2007, they made a tour of the east coast of the US, with the assistance of The Self-Starter Foundation. They also went on to perform at the SXSW festival, with one of their albums re-released in the US in 2007. In 2008, another album was released, after being recorded at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut. They performed with Death Cab for Cutie during their UK & Ireland Tour, releasing a live album later on.
In 2010, Frightened Rabbit ’s next album was released and performed live on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Soon after, the appeared on The A.V Club and one of their songs was featured on TV series, Detroit 1-8-7. Another song was used in The Beaver’s trailer. They went on to perform at the Bowlie Weekender festival by All Tomorrow’s Parties, after being personally chosen by Belle & Sebastian.
In 2011, they toured with Death Cab for Cutie again, releasing an EP later on. They started work on their next album and released in 2013. Their music has been well received by critics, with the likes of Pitchfork media, the BBC, The Guardian, NME, The A.V. Club and Allmusic.
