The origin of Maze band can be traced to 1976 as it was founded in San Francisco Bay and the founder and only permanent member of this group is Frankie Beverly. This amazing artist is surely a man of diverse talents as he is not just a singer but a song-writer, producer and can fluently play guitar and piano. He has been entertaining the fans for more than three decades and has performed with bands like The Blenders, The Butlers and two of his own groups Raw Soul and then more recently Maze. Beverly was a born artist and started singing at a very young age while he was in school and he mainly sang gospel music.
 
As of yet this soulful band has released eight tuneful albums namely Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly (1977), Golden Time of Day (1978), Inspiration (1979), Joy and Pain (1980), We Are One (1983), Can’t Stop The Love (1985), Silky Soul (1989) and Back to Basics (1993). The first six albums were released under Capitol Records but the last two were released by another famous music giant Warner Bros Records and amazingly all albums were certified Gold. Can’t Stop the Love and Silky Soul were at #41 and #43 respectively on UK Charts, #45 and #37 on US Billboard 200  and last but not the least both these albums of Frankie Beverly were his only albums to reach #1 slot on US R&B Charts.
 
Apart from studio albums Frankie and his band Maze have also released two superb live albums, first was Live in Orleans which was released in 1981, this was certified Gold and went on to #34 on US Billboard 200 and #3 on US R&B Charts. Second album was released in 1986 and was named Live in Los Angeles, this album was at #12 in R&B Charts and also charted at #70 on UK Charts. Some of the singles of Maze band that went to top positions on US R&B Charts are “Love is The Key” #5 (1983), “Back in Stride”  #1 (1985), “Too Many Games”  #5 (1985), “Silky Soul” #4 (1989) and “Can’t Get Over You” #1 (1989).
At the age of 64, Frankie Beverly and his band Maze are very much active on the music scene and keep on touring different cities of US and also Europe. This band will be the closing headliner band at the very popular Essence Music Festival. Their song “Twilight” was also featured in the famous video game Grand Theft Auto and in 2009 a tribute album was released in which different famous artists revived and performed on popular songs of Maze.
