Saturday Night Live has been America’s favorite late-night TV variety show and sketch comedy since 1975 when it was first aired on NBC. The show has provided many of its cast a strong platform for career take-off to finding international popularity and success in the world of both, television and film. From among its former stars, three cast members Jon Lovitz, Tim Meadows and Chris Kattan are now touring across the US, entertaining comedy fans after finding significant fame. This trio of Former SNL Stars has spurred much anticipation among comedy and SNL fans, making Former SNL Stars tickets a sought after must-have among them.
One of the nation’s most versatile comedians, Jon Lovitz has played many memorable SNL moments playing the characters of the Devil, Master Thespian, and Tommy Flanagan from Pathological Liars Anonymous. He has also appeared in more than thirty films, as well as on Neil Simon’s Broadway comedy called The Dinner Party. Chris Kattan has been a member of sketch/improve comedy troupes such as The Groundlings, gaining all this after portraying the unforgettable SNL characters of Mango, Mr. Peepers, and most loved, the head-bobbing Butabi Brothers alongside SNL member Will Ferrell. Tim Meadows appeared on SNL for ten years, during which time he created a swarm of laugh-prompting characters like ladies’ man, Leon Phelps. He recently starred alongside Adam Sandler in hit comedy feature film Grown Ups.
Jon Lovitz appeared in SNL between 1985 and 1990, which he looks back at as the most memorable time of his career. The artist who is soon to appear on Former SNL Stars show, started working with no money, eventually making it to a level where he was offered a movie contract worth five hundred thousand dollars. For his first couple of years on SNL, he received an Emmy-nomination. Among his most noted SNL characters was a pathological liar, Tommy Flanagan who often used the age-old catchphrase ‘Yes, That’s the ticket!’, soon after he laboriously completed making up his latest lie. This line had been used earlier by Humphrey Bogart. Other recurring characters portrayed by him included Michael Dukakis, Harvey Fierstein, Tonto, Master Thespian and Mephistopheles. In a 1986 SNL episode, he played Trekkie, the virgin, who according to the script was supposed to hang himself upon being asked if had kissed a girl ever.
Chris Kattan, who will be flaunting his famous comedy skills on the upcoming Former SNL Stars performance, became a cast member of SNL in 1995 and continued working there till 2003. Some his most famous SNL celebrity impersonations include those of Queen Elizabeth II, Robert Downey, JR., Geraldo Rivera, Kerri Strug, David Spade, Paul Shaffer, David Lee Roth, Kid Rock, Al Pacino, Alanis Morissette, Ricky Martin, Chris Kirkpatrick, Steve Irwin, Julio Iglesias, Jr., Anne Heche, Elian Gonzalez, Gollum, David Gest, Ben Affleck, Bill Gates, Larry Fine, Andy Dick, Antonio Banderas, Christiane Amanpour, and Clay Aiken. It was during his time as SNL’s cast that he was welcomed into the Walk of Fame, in 1999.
One of the Former SNL Stars, Tim Meadows found a spot on SNL in 1991, keeping the position till 2000, becoming its longtime cast member. In fact his long tenure on the comedy show has been context of gags in three monologues by former cast member Mike Meyers and Phil Hartman came back as SNL hosts, as well as when Alec Baldwin did the hosting a twelfth time. Meadows frequently spoofed well-known personalities like Erykah Badu, Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson, and O.J. Simpson. He finally came up with an original character playing ladies’ man Leon Phelps, a constantly horny show host who considered himself to be a perfect example of all that women try to find in men. The character became such a hit that he inspired a feature film in 2000 called The Ladies Man, following the character’s failed attempts in finding love.
