Let’s take a look at what this fresh new band is all about.
For King & Country’s History
The brothers Joel and Luke were born in Sydney and eventually relocated to Nashville in 1991. They were already involved in music due to several of their family members. The Smallbones are the younger brothers of Christian recording artist Rebecca St. James and brothers-in-law of Jacob Fink, from the band Foster the People. Their father was a music promoter and was the reason why the two brothers got exposed to music from a very early age. In high school, they started singing background vocals for their sister, Rebbeca and soon for various other bands in concerts all across the US. After Luke graduated from high school, the two brothers started exploring the potential in their music-making ability. They formed their own band, going by the name Joel & Luke. In 2008, they released their first EP, titled A Tale of Two Towns with six songs. In 2009, the brothers were signed on to the Warner Music Group and had producer Ben Glover working with them.
For King & Country’s Music
In 2011, the band released their first EP under the new name For King & Country. This self-titled EP had the single “Busted Heart (Hold On To Me)”, which went on to reach the third spot on the Billboard Christian Songs chart. The band’s debut album Crave, was released in 2012 and was an instant hit, as it reached No. 2 on the iTunes Top Christian and Gospel albums. It also peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard charts for Christian Albums and remained charted for almost 41 weeks. After this album, For King & Country released a single “The Proof of Your Love”, which reached No. 8 position on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart.
Soon the band started making appearances on tours and TV shows and started gaining a large fan following. Their debut hit song, “Busted Heart (Hold On To Me)” even aired on an episode of Rehab With Dr. Drew. Their songs “People Change” and “Love’s To Blame” appeared on The Vampire Diaries and Light It Up on the Lifetime.
In the summer of 2012, the duo announced a tour for “The Proof of Your Love”, alongside Jason Castro and Dara Maclean. This tour included performances in 30 cities and lasted for almost three months.
The summer of 2013 brought with it some bad news that forced the band to take some time off. Luke had a severe attack of ulcerative colitis and his weight dropped to dangerously low levels. But soon the band was back on track and back in the studio. Hope Is What We Crave, a live album and DVD, was released in August 2013. In the start of 2014, the band was on tour again, along Casting Crowns.
Their new album, Run Wild, Live Free was released in September 2014 and spent almost 17 weeks on the Billboard 200. Following this, the band got a chance to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live and also became a part of the Winter Jam Tour 2015.
And now, after the release of their 2016 singles “It’s Not Over Yet” and “Priceless”, the band is all set to tour again and bring their amazing music to various cities in the US.
