In 2010, he started producing house music under the name HEDS and created two tracks, Fizz and Flow. He also produced several remixes and started gaining attention for his music talents.
His professional career started after he won a competition held by an Australian record company, Future Classic. He sent three original tracks to the company namely Sleepless, Paper Thin and Over You, and won the competition. After winning the competition he signed to the label and began recording his music. In 2011, he released his debut EP titled “Sleepless” whose lead single made history and established Flume as the new sensation in electronic dance music.
The next year, Flume released his self-titled debut studio album to exceptional critical acclaim and commercial success. It included appearances by some other notable EDM musicians as well including Jezzabell Doran, Moon Holiday and Chet Faker to name a few. The album debut at the top of the charts in Australia and went on to be certified double platinum. In New Zealand also, it reached the Top 20 albums chart.
The lead single from the album, Holding On, went viral and earned him several nominations at the ARIA Music Awards of 2013. It charted at number four on the Triple J Hottest 100 chart. In February 2013, Flume released this album in United States and earned a lot of critical acclaim for his distinctive music there as well. On the review aggregate site ‘Metacritic’, “Flume” received an average score of 73 out of hundred.
The fact that Flume’s debut record reached number one on the Australian charts, makes it only the second debut electronic album to achieve the feat since Sneaky Sound System’s record “2” came out in 2008. On the ARIA Singles Chart two songs from the album made it to Top 50 as well; Holding On reached number seventeen and Hyperparadise remix made it to number thirty-eight. Flume also headlined his first Australian tour, called ‘Infinity Prism Tour’, in April and May 2013 and sold more than forty thousand tickets. The tour led him to be named as a ‘Must-See-Act’ at the SXSW festival.
In November 2013, Flume released an extended version of his debut album and added contributions by some other stars as well, including Boldy James, M.O.P. and Killer Mike. Shortly after, he released another EP titled, “Lockjaw” along with the fellow artist Faker. Flume then embarked on his first United States tour along with the duo ‘Disclosure’.
