Florence’s “machine” consists of seven other band members – Isabella Summers, Robert Ackroyd, Christopher Lloyd Hayden, Tom Monger, Mark Saunders, Rusty Bradshaw and Sam White. Florence’s talent for writing lyrics combined with her band’s ability to fuse rock, pop and soul enabled the group to release their first album in 2009.
“Lungs” quickly became one of the year’s most popular records. Within a matter of months four songs from their debut album made it to the Top Forty Singles list (in the United Kingdom). The British group’s success spread across the Atlantic to the United States, where the album went viral and received a platinum certification.
Their song, “Dog Days Are Over,” peaked at number twenty-one on the American music charts. The band’s other critically acclaimed singles include “What the Water Gave Me” and “Shake It Out”.
The band’s songs have been featured on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Dancing with the Stars, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl and Glee. Florence and the Machine were also hired to record the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of “The Great Gatsby”.
Now that the band has played at Bonnaroo and Governors Ball this year, they will be performing at Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and Voodoo Fest. 2015 definitely promises to be a bright year for Florence and the Machine.
