With the show that is coming your way, you get to listen to some of the greatest compositions by iconic composers such as George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, Bach, Robert Schumann, Pietro Locatelli, Francesco Maria Veracini and Giuseppe Tartini, amongst numerous others. Performing professionally since the naïve age of twelve, Biondi has perfected sonatas, baroques, oratorio, cantatas, concerto and operas written by these composers. Performing this style of Western music that gained momentum and popularity in the seventeenth century, Baroque has brought forth some of the greatest composers this world has seen. Focusing on the invention and experimentation of tonality, in which hierarchical relationships are formed with the pitch using tonics or key center, the music that came forth during this particular era used rich musical ornamentation. This particular genre of classical music is accredited for expanding the range, size and complexity of instrumental usage, establishing what we know today as operas, concertos and sonatas. Biondi, in his forthcoming performance will be recreating these powerful compositions from the Baroque era with the help of an orchestra and pianist, Kenneth Weiss.
At this feature presentation, these musicians will be performing three of Bach’s compositions that include Sonata in G Major, Sonata No.6 in G Major and Sonata No. 4 in C Minor and P.A. Locatelli’s Sonata in D Minor. The concert that is a part of the Salon Encores Series created by the Carnegie Hall, will present a solo recital by Biondi this time. The last time the musician made his way to the recital hall was along with his fifteen member orchestral group, Europa Galante that he founded in 1990. This performance was recognized by The New York Times as having the zest and precision that is necessary to make Bach’s music sizzle as it must have back in the day.
Born in 1961, Biondi began his career playing concertos for the RAI Symphony Orchestra when he was twelve. The young composer was only sixteen when he embarked on his first international tour, visiting Vienna to perform Bach’s concertos throughout Musikverein. Biondi then made his way to working with some of the most prestigious organizations such as Musica Antiqua Wien, La Capella Reial, La Chaphelle Royale, Seminario Musicale and the Les Musiciens du Louvre. He currently works with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra as its Baroque’s artistic director apart from leading his own group of musicians. Ever since the establishment of Europa Galante, Biondi has toured massively at venues located all over London, Rome, Milan, New York, Amsterdam, Sydney, Tokyo and Vienna.
With a wide array of musical releases that covers a repertory that is spread over three centuries, Biondi’s diversity when it comes to rediscovering major compositions as well as minor works is astounding. Some of his releases include "The Four Season’s by Vivaldi", "Alessandro Scarlatti’s opera and serenatas", "Operas by Handel (Poro)" and his "Italian repertory from the XVII Century". With these releases that have won him several of the most prestigious awards include Grammy nominations in 2006, Biondi has been accredited for embodying the pursuit of an original language that disregards any form of dogmatism.
