Formed in 1992, Everclear are best known for their radio hits spanning over a decade. The band’s sound reflected the post-punk and rock influences of Alexakis. These include music acts such as the Pixies, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Another factor that contributed to the success of Everclear was their touring schedule and aggressive self-marketing strategies.
In 2012 Alexakis launched a 1990s nostalgia tour, which takes place every year in summer with Everclear and other alternative rock bands from the 90s’ era. It is called the Summerland tTour and has been a huge hit with the fans. This year Everclear will be touring with Macey Playground and Local H as part of the tour. Formation & Debut
Art Alexakis had a troubled youth. His father abandoned the family when Alexakis was a child, leaving them to deal with a lot of financial hardships. Alexakis got involved in drugs and spent most of his teenage years moving around the country, living with various members of his family. But the environment change was not enough to pull him out of drug addiction. It was when he suffered a near fatal cocaine overdose that he realized he needed to quit.
In the late 80s, Alexakis performed as part of a rock band Shakin’ Brave in Los Angeles. This is where he began to polish his songwriting skills. However, he could not garner much attention and the frustration led Art to relocate to San Francisco where he joined in the cowpunk music scene which was thriving at the time. He then founded a label Shindig Records that represented the cowpunk scene in San Francisco and soon began recording for his solo album which later evolved into a group effort with Colorfinger.
However, Colorfinger soon broke up following the failure of Shindig and Art relocated to his girlfriend’s hometown. In the year 1992, he met Craig Montoya and Scott Cuthbert and together the trio recorded a demo EP. Alexakis personally mailed copies of the EP to distributors and media outlets. Titled World of Noise, the album was officially released on Tim/Kerr label in 1993.
Everclear’s second studio record Sparkle and Fade hit the music stores in May of 1995. The album spawned singles such as You Make Me Feel Like a Whore, Santa Monica and Heroin Girl. The collection is themed around romance and addiction and is somewhat a reflection of what Art Alexakis’ life was like during his twenties. It is one of Everclear’s bestselling albums. The record’s cover features childhood pictures of all three members of the band.
The year 1997 saw the release of the album So Much for the Afterglow which went double Platinum, particularly due to its three Top 5 modern rock hits Father of Mine, I Will Buy You a New Life and Everything to Everyone.
Everclear’s following two albums namely Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile and its sequel Songs from an American Movie Vol. Two: Good Time or a bad Attitude are inspired by Art’s second divorce.
Learning How to Smile is more influenced by the American pop music of the 1970s while Good Time for a Bad Attitude has a hard rock feel. It is also Everclear’s second bestselling album and the only one to debut in the Top 10 on the Billboard charts.
Black is the New Back
The most recent studio effort by Everclear is the hard rock album, Black is The New Black. It was released on The End Records in April of 2015. Comprising a total of eleven tracks, the collection is dark in nature and has a modern and heavier sound. The song American Monster is perhaps the heaviest track on the album. It has a lot of energy and is a perfect number to be performed in an arena. Alexakis’ vocals are as passionate and powerful as they were back in the day when the band was originally formed. The song Complacent is one which resembles Everclear’s earlier work the most.
In the year 2012, Art Alexakis founded an annual touring rock ‘n’ roll festival called Summerland Tour. It mainly features American music bands that were most popular in the alternative rock era of the 1990s. The inaugural festival featured acts such as Sugar Ray, Marcy Playground, Gin Blossoms, Lit and Everclear themselves. The event was named among The Ten Hottest Summer Package Tours of 2012 by the renowned Rolling Stone magazine.
The annual tradition of bringing together top-notch acts from the 1990s has been a successful one. The 2018 lineup for the Summerland Tour has been announced. Joining Evercear this time around are Local H and Marcy Playground. So without wasting another moment, grab the best deals of Everclear tickets.
