Born in 1941 in Walker, Newcastle upon Tyne, Eric Victor Burdon entered the music industry officially in 1962 when he became a member of the band, the Animals. He was the lead singer in the group and sang alongside Alan Price who played the keyboards and organ, with John Steel on drums, Hilton Valentine on guitars and Bryan Chandler playing bass.
When the group was officially formed it was named the Alan Price Combo. The name was later changed due to the wild performances the members put forward. The group was known to combine rock tunes with electric blues and is amongst the bands that are known to introduce British music on a global level. Other bands accredited of doing so include the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Kinks and the Dave Clarke Five.
In the band, Burdon was seen providing his vocals for the singles, "Sky Pilot", "the House of the Rising Sun", "I’m Crying", "Monterey", "Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood", "Boom Boom", "Baby Let Me Take You Home", "Bring It On Home to Me", "See See Rider", "It’s My Life" and "Don’t Bring Me Down". Four years after the band’s formation, several founding members decided to quit the group and the name of the band was changed to Eric Burdon and the Animals. This later became Eric Burdon and the New Animals in 1998.
The group has released a total of six studio albums in Europe out of which three have been placed amongst the top 10 albums on the UK Albums Chart. As the Animals, Burdon has performed on four studio albums, all of which have been financed by MGM. As Eric Burdon & the Animals, the artist has released five studio releases and two compilation albums as well. Out of these albums ten singles have made its way to US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. The band also received induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 1994.
After working with the Animals, Burdon was seen performing with the Californian funk band, War in 1969. The artist produced an album titled "Eric Burdon Declares War" that brought forth popular singles such as "Tobacco Road" and "Spill the Wine". Another album named "the Black-Man’s Burdon" was released in 1971 which presented successful tracks namely "They Can’t Take Away Our Music" and "Paint It, Black".
Before embarking on a solo career, Burdon released a compilation album with the group. The compilation release was called "Love Is All Around" and was financed by ABC Records. After working with these bands, Eric Burdon embarked on a solo career. In 1971, the artist established the Eric Burdon Band and started recording material immediately. He has released a total of thirty studio albums, thirteen live releases and thirty five compilation records. He has also released fifty singles out of which seventeen have made their way to charts in different parts of the world.
