There is no limit to what you can achieve if you have self-belief and EarthGang is a prime example of that. Doctur Dot and Johnny Venus have made a massive impact and they are just getting started.
The First Interaction
Dot and Venus used to study at the Mays High School but weren't really friends. In ninth grade, they went on a field trip and when they returned they saw that their school was on fire. The school was at the top of a hill and when they reached there, they saw fire trucks and parents running everywhere. There was chaos and it was on that field trip where these two met. The connection was instant and that fire situation at school is what that inspired, so to say, making music.
The Band's Formation
They were around seventeen years old when they decided to take up music seriously and in 2007 it resulted in the formation of the group. They started to make music but without getting too much attention. Then in January of 2010, EarthGang came out with an extended play titled "The Better Party." The EP was recorded in different locations and was mastered by not only the band itself but also by Jack Swain.
In the same year they decided it was time for them to hit the road and they began to perform all across the United States. That wasn't all as EarthGang also began to release a few tracks. Their first track came out in November 2010 and it was titled Miss the Show. That was followed up by a music video of the song Kick'n It in the early half of next year.
Then came another single Opium and they also went on to make a music video of the song later on. EarthGang also came out with "Mad Men" and "Good News," two albums in 2011 and released them on their own. The first one was released in April while Good News was released in December. In June 2012, they released the song The F Bomb which also featured on a 2014 album of theirs. They then released the song Machete and came up with UFOs, a slow track in terms of tempo that was nine minutes long.
Time to Make a Mark
EarthGang released their debut studio album "Shallow Graves for Toys" on July 8, 2013 and it had a few of the band's singles they had already released previously like Machete, UFOs and The F Bomb. The record was then released again on iTunes in 2014. The album turned out to be a critical hit that received acclaim from the likes of Creative Loafing (Atlanta) and Noisey. EarthGang have released quite a few videos of the songs that feature on the album since its release.
Raising Their Profile
In 2014, they performed at different festivals including SXSW. Then they kicked-off a tour that saw them perform forty dates in collaboration with Ab-Soul. In November 2015, they released another album and it was titled "Strays with Rabies." EarthGang then went on to sign with Dreamville Records, J. Cole's label, in 2017.
They celebrated the signing by coming out with their first released under the label, a five track project named "Rags" the very next day. The EP made a solid impact. It not only received critical acclaim but also went on to peak at the forty eighth spot on the US Independent Albums.
That was followed by another extended play titled "Robots" in October of the same year and it turned out to be a major critical success story. Then came their third EP under Dreamville Records titled "Royalty" in February of 2018 and it received nine out of ten marks from Exclaim! It also received four stars out of five from HipHopDX.
EarthGang have announced the name of their next studio album and it is "Mirrorland." The record is scheduled to come out soon but for now they are going on tour with J. Cole. It is one of the most talked about hip hop road trips of the year and you can be a part of it by booking your EarthGang tickets today.
