Who is Dr. Jordan Peterson?
Dr. Peterson is a Canadian. Born in Edmonton, Alberta,Peterson’s mother was a librarian, while his father a school teacher. As a teenager he was introduced to the writings of Ayn Rand, George Orwell, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and others. He was part of the New Democratic Party (NDP) for a while but later left.
Peterson graduated from the University of Alberta with an undergraduate degree in political science. He started to take interest in psychological origins of the Cold War and grew concerned about the escalation of nuclear arms race. Fascinated by human capacity to self-destruct, Peterson was drawn towards the writings of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Carl Jung and Friedrich Nietzsche. Peterson’s interest in psychology led him to getting a second undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Alberta. Later, Peterson obtained his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from McGill University.
Dr. Peterson later taught at Harvard University. He is currently a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Peterson is considered an authority in the fields of abnormal, social and personality psychology with main focus on psychology of religious and ideological belief. While teaching at Harvard, he supervised a number of unconventional thesis proposals on these topics, which endeared him to his students.
Dr. Jordan Peterson has authored two books, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief and 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos.
