Hailing from Trumansburg, New York, the group currently comprises Kyle Spark on electric bass, David McCracken on organ and electric keyboard, Mark Raudabaugh on drums, Jeb Puryear on vocals, and electric guitar, and Tara Nevins on tambourine, vocals, and acoustic guitar. Apart from producing original songs, the band famously covers popular tracks. Jeb and Tara are the primary songwriters of the band.
Officially established in 1989, the Buffalo released their debut album 'The White Tape' the same year. The album met moderate success and managed to place the band on the road to success. Their second album 'The Red Tape' garnered rave reviews and attracted many listeners to the band’s music. Since then, the band has become one of the most successful independent acts and continues to gain praise for its unique and unconventional sound.

The band’s album 'Silverlined' released in 2008, was well received by fans and peaked on Americana Music chart at number eight position.
To continue spreading their music amongst a growing community of fans, known as The Herd, the band also founded the annual music festival, "Finger Lakes Grass Roots Festival". Held in Trumansburg, New York, the Grass Roots Festival of Music and Dance was initially started in 1991 and it has since then grown to become one of the most eminent music festivals of the country. The festival attracts popular musicians belonging to a range of music genres including rockabilly, hip hop, rock and roll, Irish music, Americana, country, reggae and bluegrass. Over seventy artists perform at the festival every year. Some of the notable musicians who have played at the event include The Waifs, Trevor MacDonald, 10,000 Maniacs, Rusted Root, The Mahotella Queens, King Sunny Ade, John Brown's Baby, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Hackensaw Boys, Burning Spear, The Avett Brothers and Ani Difranco.
