Don Omar is a Puerto Rican reggaton singer who has been active since 1999 and has risen to dominate his genre of music and the genres pop, R&B and rap. As a singer and a songwriter, he has been signed onto a number of record labels including VI Music, Machete Music and Universal Music Latino. He has also founded his own record label, Orfanato Music Latino Records. He is also a composer and an actor outside the world of music, starring in a number of popular movies. His music has also been featured widely in movies such as the third movie in the Fast and Furious movie series. Don Omar was born in the city of San Juan in Puerto Rico and developed a fondness for music at an early age, listening to the likes of Brewley MC and Vico C. He then went on to become a member of the Protestant church and even went on to offer sermons regularly. Four years later, he left and began his career in the world of music. He started performing at several local clubs and venues alongside DJ Eliel Lind Osorio. His songs began appearing as part of compilations released by several producers and DJs like Noriega, DJ Eric and Luny Tunes. Don Omar released his first album, The Last Don, which was an instant success all over America and many other parts of the world. It was soon certified platinum by the RIAA, selling more than a million albums and winning him a number of Billboard Latin Music Awards including that of the New Artist & Latin Rap Hip-Hop Album of the Year as well as Latin Pop Album of the Year. It also received a Grammy Award nomination as the Urban Music Album. In 2006, he released his next album King of Kings which was also a massive success. It became the highest ever reggaeton album in terms of ranking on the charts grabbing the number one spot on the Latin Sales charts, the Billboard Latin Rhythm Radio Chart and in the top ten of the US music charts. It contained the hit single Angelito and went on to make a record for the Disney World Virgin in-store appearance sales record, a record previously made by Britney Spears.
 
As the reggaeton artist with the highest charting debut, Don Omar’s album was also a massive successful commercially. It ranked seventh on the charts and sold seventy four thousand copies in its first week only. In 2007, he received the Latin Billboard Award for the Reggaeton Album of the Year and two of his songs were part of the movies, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. In 2008, he performed live at America’s most famous venue, the Madison Square Garden, as part of Concierto del Amor a Gilberto Santa Rosa presentation event. In 2009, his album King of Kings was ranked by Billboard as the Most Successful Album of the Decade added to being the Most Successful Album in the History of the Reggaeton and Latin music genres. By 2009, his album had sold over four million copies with his song featured as part of the Grand Theft Auto IV video game.
 
In 2009, Don Omar released his third album titled as iDon. The first single from this album, Virtual Diva, was part of the MTV Tr3s show of the same name and it became an instant hit and the the most requested one on Latin radio stations. In 2010, he released the album Don Omar Presents: Meet The Orphans, featuring a wide range of music artists including several from the reggaeton genre of music. He has also starred in Los Bandoleros, Fast Five and Fast & Furious.
