About DJ Khaled
Khaled was born to Palestinian parents, who had immigrated to the US long ago. He has described himself as a devoted Muslim. The artist developed an interest in rap and soul music from a young age – the interest was supported by his parents, which allowed him to develop it further with full independence. He started working at a local record store, which helped pave the way to his future career in the music industry.
During his early years in the industry, Khaled helped several young artists such as Birdman, Mavado and Lil Wayne. The record store where he worked, Odyssey, gave him a lot of exposure regarding the workings of the music industry. After he left Odyssey, he started getting involved in DJing in reggae soundclashes and mixed up hip-hop with dancehall to create unique new beats.
In 1998, his career took an upward turn as he moved to Miami and began co-hosting The Luke Show on WEDR “99 Jamz” alongside Luther Campbell, from 2 Live Crew. A few years later in 2003, the budding artist began hosting a weeknight show on radio.
