Devo, a cult sensation, broke through to the mainstream with rock music in the early seventies. The band’s journey towards success began with the release of a Billboard Chart Hit Whip It. The trio with the inclusion of a couple of other members took the idea of ‘De- evolution’ further in their performances unveiling The Complete Truth about De-evolution in a video that played in University festivals. With a slight change in the lineup, the band continued to make performances at local festivals and University gatherings.

Devo got noticed for its efforts by a renowned multi talented artist Neil Young, who offered them to participate in making his film ‘Human Highway’. The movie featured the band’s music which acted as a promotional tool for Devo. It signed with a private label Booji Boy and released a number of singles including, ‘I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’ and ‘Be Stiff’ among the others. The band soon grabbed the attention of Warner Bros Records and signed a contract with it. This was a point when it formally got its association strong with the music industry.

Devo released its first album Q: Are we not men? A: We are Devo!, in the late seventies. The album was received with a mix response. The band dramatized the concept of dehumanization emotional repression in order to attack it, but the critics took it differently calling the group ‘fascists’. The band didn’t lose hope and continued producing music with their entire passion. Further releases of Devo intensified the element of electronic instrumentation in their music, making it sound even more mechanical.
 
It has launched nine albums in total, with Something For Everybody being the latest one. The band has witnessed rise and fall on the music charts with all its releases. Its singles like, ‘Beautiful Girl’, ‘The Girl You Want’ and ‘Head Like A Hole’ among a list of others have achieved immense popularity, making its way to Hollywood by getting featured in movies.
