Dead Can Dance is an Australian that was founded in the year 1981 in Melbourne Australia by musician friends singer Lisa Gerrard, singer and guitarist Brendan Perry and drummer Simon Monroe. Just one year after the formation, Dead Can Dance relocated to UK and eventually in the year 1998 the group was disbanded. Over the years their music has definitely been admired by the fans and critics but the band failed to receive a wider recognition till a proper distribution agreement was signed and their albums were available in the US. Dead Can Dance in a career spanning approximately over three decades has released seven studio, one live and four compilation albums. Throughout this time Dead Can Dance has been under contract with label 4AD Records.
 
Dead Can Dance debut album was self-titled and self-produced effort by the band that was released in 1984. This was followed by four more fine albums namely Spleen and Ideal(1985), Within the Realm of the Dying Sun (1987), The Serpent’s Egg (1988) and Aion (1990). All these four albums despite being good failed to chart in any country. In the year 1993 Into the Labyrinth went on sale in music stores and this became the first ever album of Dead Can Dance that managed to hit the charts, this album landed at #122 on US Billboard, #47 on UK and #70 on Dutch charts. This was the time from where the group started getting recognition across the globe. Spiritchaser was the seventh album of Dead Can Dance that was released in 1996 and this proved to be an even bigger success earning better chart positions. It landed at #75 on US Billboard, #43 in UK, #48 on Dutch charts, for the very first time it also entered the French and Belgium charts at #15 and #25 respectively. Spiritchaser is the first and only album till date of Dead Can Dance that went to the top position on the US World Music Charts. Dead Can Dance has performed in a number of cities across the globe such as Toronto, Dublin, Madrid, Barcelona, Chicago Seattle, Brussels, The Hague, London and Munich. Some of the very popular singles of Dead Can Dance include “The Carnival is Over”, “The Host of Seraphim”, “The Snake and the Moon”, “American Dreaming” and “The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove”. The compositions of Dead Can Dance have been used in various movies and TV serials like Demoni 2, Miami Vice, Top Gear, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Legends of the Guardians, Home of the Brave, Battle for Haditha and The West Wing.
