Formed in 1987 in New Jersey, "Danzig" are a heavy metal and hard rock band. They took their musical inspiration from the "Black Sabbath." The band consists of four brilliant musicians Glenn Danzig, Tommy Victor, Johnny Kelly and Steve Zing. Glenn Danzig is the brilliant lead vocalist, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist who has been writing songs for the group since 1987. Formerly, Danzig was a part of the horror punk band, Misfits that was formed in 1977. The group had a varying lineup in its infancy years, hence it disbanded in 1983. After the group dispersed, Danzig went on to form a heavy metal and death rock band titled Samhain in 1983. He continued to play with the group for the next four years until it evolved into Danzig in 1987.
In January 2011, "Danzig" played alongside several bands including Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie and System of a Down at the Download Festival in England. Later in June of the same year, they went to play at the Nova Rock Festival. "Danzig" have also come out with a lyric book titled Hidden Lyrics of the Left Hand that was published in March 2010. The book comprises of lyrics of unreleased songs together with illustrations by Simon Bisley.
The band released their self-titled debut album on the Def American Recordings in 1988. Some brilliant numbers of the album include Not of This World, Soul on Fire, She Rides, Am I Demon and Mother. The live version of the song, Mother had become super famous on the hard rock radio stations as well as on MTV. In October 1994, the band released its album, Danzig 4 that has many amazing songs like, Cantspeak that reached the Billboard chart.
In 2006, Danzig mentioned in several interviews that they were growing tired of constant touring however, they still went out on small localized Blackest of the Black tour in the same year. In August 2008, the band celebrated the release of their debut album by headlining a twentieth anniversary tour. This was the band’s full fledge concert tour that included stopovers in Canada and Mexico.
