With a country pop style, a beautiful flair in her voice and coming from a family of incomparable singers, Crystal Gayle is one of the most popular female American country music singers. A family lineage with singers like Loretta Lynn (elder sister) and Patty Loveless (cousin) and a gifted voice like hers, it was evident that she too would be inclined towards becoming a professional singer. The journey to become a future super star began with singing at local radio stations and soon, before even knowing it she was on her way touring across the globe with her elder sister Loretta Lynn. Upon graduating from high school, Crystal was ready to take on the road to become a singer. Born as Brenda Gail Webb, the young star was signed on by her sister’s recording label Decca records. Her stage name Crystal Gayle was also given to her by her elder sister.

Gayle’s first single ‘I’ve cried’ came out in 1970 and became an instant hit. The song was written by Loretta and replicated her style of singing too. Proving to be a successful endeavor commercially, it was proving to be a failed approach to establish Gayle as a singer herself. Filling her sister’s shoes was getting tougher for Crystal. With hopes of having her own identity as a singer, Gayle parted ways with Decca records and was signed on to united artists in 1974.

Here, teaming up with produces Allen Reynolds, she got the much needed freedom of writing her own songs and developing her own individual style of singing. Her first album titled ‘Crystal Gayle’ established to do that for her. Songs from her album topped the charts and Crystal became the new shining star of the music world. With hopes of touching new heights of super stardom, Reynolds encouraged Crystal to record a jazz-flavored ballad ‘Don’t it make my Brown eyes Blue’ and Reynolds expectations turned out to be true. The song became the biggest hit of Crystal’s career. Staying on top of the charts for 4 weeks, the song did wonders for rising super star.

Winning her a Grammy award and becoming the ‘Female vocalist of the year’ for 2 years by the Country Music Association Awards and thrice for Academy of Country Music, the song got her out of the shadow of her sister and established Crystal as a bankable star. The song also helped in her second album becoming a tremendous hit and making her the first female country artist to have a certified platinum album. The 1980’s started and the next decade brought Crystal her next number 1 single ‘it’s like we never said goodbye.’ Gayle’s next album ‘Hollywood, Tennessee’ brought all eyes on the super star again. With one side of the album containing pop songs and the other containing country songs, the whole world was dazed with Gayle’s range of genres. Each song from her album was becoming a chart buster, an accomplishment that no other female country singer was able to accomplish. Starting her career in 1970, the singer has been unstoppable till date. Her talent and voice quality cannot be matched by any other female singers. Her journey to the top has been is unbelievable; reaching to the star seemed like a piece of cake for this singer.

With 21 gold and platinum status studio albums, 14 compilation albums and 18 chart buster singles on her record, Crystal Gayle is one of the most outstanding singers this country has ever seen. Rated as one of the ‘40 Greatest Women of Country Music’ and voted as ‘Best Female Entertainer’ in the American Entertainment Magazine; 2nd October is celebrated as Crystal Gayle Day for her par excellence achievement and contribution to country music. Her name was also inducted in the Kentucky Music Hall of fame. With her beautiful voice, Crystal’s amazing beauty was also honored by People’s Magazine as she was on the ‘50 most beautiful people in the world list’. 2009 was the year when Hollywood walk of fame was graced with Crystal Gayle’s name being added to it. Crystal is currently touring across the globe. With her memorable hits in store for you and an opportunity to hear them live, this is not worth missing.
