For those who wish to know, Classic Jam is a five member ensemble that includes Jennifer Choi playing the violin, Cyrus Beroukhim controlling the viola, Wendy Law handling the cello, Marco Granados playing the flute and Justin Hines on percussion. The main aim behind the establishment of this ensemble is to present audiences with a lively, enchanting and high-caliber orchestral performance at every show. CJ has been able to create a unique sound to their concerts where they have collaborated with soloists as well as chamber musicians to present a new dimension to those who want something more than just mundane. Their repertoire includes original compositions, classical and traditional works, commissioned pieces and exciting improvisations. One thing that is unique to CJ is the fact that they encourage audiences to come and provide their feedback regarding the entire process of sound creation. Through this way, CJ is able to provide audiences with something that is fresh and in demand.
Apart from performing as a group, Classical Jam has performed with several of the most prestigious orchestral organizations such as Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Julliard Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony, the Virginia Symphony and the Oregon Symphony, amongst numerous others. Over the years, this orchestral group has performed throughout Middle East, America, Asia and Europe. The members also hold several of the most important teaching posts at the Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Institute, 92nd Street Y and the New York Philharmonic. Due to their contributions, the five member classical group received the honorable Cary Trust Fund for Contemporary Music Projects which was given to them by Concert Artists Guild. They were chosen for this grant by legendary composer, Randall Woolf in order to work on new projects. CJ has also received a grant given by the Puffin Foundation Ltd, so as to produce the film called "Classical Jam- a Documentary" which they created in collaboration with Kasia Witek.
Some of their more recent performances that were held in Strathmore included opening performances for some of the most popular composers and conductors that include Payton MacDonald, Randall Woolf and a few musicians from the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra. This year will bring several performances by the ensemble at the Lincoln Center, Montalvo Arts Center, and the Forum Series at St. Thomas, the Dogwood Center and the Lee University Presidential Concert. CJ is known to hold a variety of shows that range from solo appearances, to concertos, subscription series, in-school concerts and orchestral performances, so as to cater to the diversity of audiences’ music preferences.
The five member ensemble constitutes of professional and well-educated musicians who have received graduate level education from some of the most prestigious music schools throughout America such as the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, the Julliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and the New England Conservatory. This time this talented group will present at an upcoming show that is scheduled to be held at the Montalvo Arts Center located in the city of San Francisco. The Montalvo Center is considered to be a historical landmark that was built by James Duval Phelan back in the year 1912. It was previously called Villa Montalvo, where Phelan resided for several years when he was the Senator of California. It was in 1930 when the San Francisco Art Association decided to gain the trusteeship of the area and initiated an arts program. Ever since then, the center has served as one of the finest community centers in San Francisco and if you are interested in watching the next performance here, all you need to do is purchase Classical Jam tickets today.
