Chris Botti has earned a name for himself as a contemporary jazz performer. His brilliant composition has not only set right with the mainstream audiences but has also won him rave reviews from the critics. Originating from Oregon, Chris Botti started playing at the age of ten after listening to Miles Davis and getting inspiration from his ballads. However, this famous trumpeter’s first musical influence was his mother. A classically trained pianist, she generated his interest in music and encouraged him to get professional training. Botti enrolled in the prestigious Indiana University and earned a degree in music studies. During his time there he got an opportunity to be trained by talented musicians like Dave Baker and later found great teachers in David Friesen and trumpet master Woody Shaw.

Chris Botti began his music career after moving to New York City in 1985. Before producing his own albums, Botti got the opportunity to tour and perform with artists like Paul Simon which gave him great exposure. For two years he remained associated with Sting’s backup band. In 1995 Chris Botti released his first solo album, “First Wish”. He experimented with different textures and melodies and was able to create songs that were a blend of jazz and pop music. With his talent and creativity he has managed to create a distinct style for himself. Botti has been very lucky with opportunities and got a chance to work with some of the best in music such as Marc Cohn, Natalie Merchant, Joni Mitchell, Andrea Bocelli, Joshua Bell, John Mayer and Frank Sinatra.

Chris Botti has produced several albums all of which show his passion for contemporary jazz music. In 2001 he released his album, “Night Sessions” which was co-written by multi-instrumentalist Kipper. Botti worked on the album when he was on two years tour with Sting and every song on the album was composed after dark as it provided the musician more freedom and fewer distractions. Hence the album was given the name, “Night Sessions” and it became a huge hit in the contemporary jazz genre. 2002 saw the release of his holiday theme album, “December”. All the songs in the album create the feeling of joy and comfort, keeping Christmas spirit alive. There is a variety in tracks, while some have slow and lush arrangements, others are fast and perky. “A Thousand Kisses Deep” was his next album and included beautifully crafted original tracks. The crossover between jazz and pop music added to its appeal and made jazz fans go crazy. Songs like, “My Funny Valentine” which included arrangements by Miles Davis, ranked in top five on every music chart and maintained that position for a long time. Chris Botti’s album, “To Love Again: The Duets”, showcases the talent of nine best vocalists of this era and adds depth to his music. Despite being a star studded album, Botti has managed not to be overshadowed and his unique touch is evident throughout.  The album fulfilled fans expectations and has been labeled as one of the best works of Botti. “Italia”, Chris Botti’s another release, is a combination of different compositions and includes classical opera as well as film music. The album shows his strengths as a composer and trumpeter. The romance, the lushness and the beautifully presented skills, have made this album Botti’s masterpiece.

In his music career Chris Botti has been nominated for Grammy Award several times. His album, “Night Sessions” won Album of the Year award at National Smooth Jazz Awards. In addition to this he has also won Jazz Artist of the Year award.
