Chayanne, whose birth name is Elmer Figueroa Arceth, started his career in the late eighties. His initial years in the music industry were as the lead vocalist of a Latino band called Los Chicos. The band was quite prominent commercially with their Latino Pop. They gave quite a tough competition to its Puerto Rican counterpart Menudo. Their nostalgic and romantic vocals made their way into the mainstream pop quite patently. They became the musical rage in Puerto Rico and Central America with timeless hits like "Puerto Rico Son Los Chicos" and "Ave María". These were the times when Los Chicos memorabilia flooded the markets and the local radio honked up with their songs all the time.
Their band members Ray, Migue and Chayanne of Los Chicos stayed together till 1983. In 1983 they left the band declaring poor working conditions as the cause. The band continued with the new band members but didn’t survive long and was soon dissolved. It was then when Chayanne went solo with his debut album "Es Mi Nombre". The album carried a pure Latin flavor with songs like "Chayanne es mi Nombre", "De Dos en Dos", "Chinatown", "Sexy", "Un Nuevo Juego" , "Loco Chay", "Chicos Malos" ,"Una Marciana en la Avenida", "Dime Donde Voy", "Estar a Tu Lado" and "Y Que Culpa Tengo Yo".
This album was just the beginning of his career as an international pop star. From there onward, each of his albums, one after another, were pennants of success in his steady growth chart. In 1986 his second album "Sangre Latina" broke into the market. This album outdid his previous records by singing entertaining Puerto Rican numbers. His next two albums released in the period of two years were eponymous. Chayanne once again played on his strengths, a pure balladeer with flattering dance moves. This was his golden period in the music industry as his songs made it to the Billboard charts, he was nominated for a Grammy and he became the brand ambassador of Pepsi International. His popular singles of the album were "Fuiste un Trozo de Hielo en la Escarcha", "Tu Pirata Soy Yo"and "Este Ritmo Se Baila Así".
This was his big bang entry into mainstream stardom and from there on; there was no turning back for him. He came up with a number of popular albums afterwards including names like "Tiempo de Vals"," Provócame", " Influencias", " Volver a Nacer ", "Atado a Tu Amor", " Simplemente", " Grandes Éxitos", "Sincero", "Desde Siempre", "Cautivo", " Mi Tiempo" and "Chayanne: Vivo". His signature track "Provocame" was released and it marked as the biggest hit of his career ever. His other popular singles of this period were Tiempo de Vals, "Completamente Enamorados","Daría Cualquier Cosa" and El Centro de mi Corazon. In 1998 his album "Atado a Tu Amor" earned him a Grammy nomination for his #1 hit "Dejaria Todo".
Chayanne was on fire as his number of hits kept increasing in the next decade as well. The millennium had a good start for Chayanne with hits numbers like "Candela","Yo Te Amo", "Y Tu Te Vas", "Un Siglo Sin Ti", "Cuidarte el Alma", "Contra Vientos y Mareas", "No Se Por Que", "Te Echo de Menos", "Si Nos Quedará Poco Tiempo" and "No Te Preocupes Por Mi".Chayanne has now come up with his latest album "No Hay Imposibles".
