Charles Bradley began appearing in local clubs of Brooklyn. He released his debut single "Take It As It Comes", proving himself as a worthy singer. It was quite a long journey before Charles managed to establish his career in the music world. It was after writing down a number of singles, with Daptone releasing a few of them, starting in 2002, ten of those were selected and released as the debut album of Charles Bradley entitled No Time For Dreaming in 2011.
Director Poull Brien made a documentary in 2012 named "Soul of America", featuring the life story of Bradley. It portrayed his childhood and featured his journey from the harsh days of heartache and homelessness to his gigs and performances as Black Velvet that finally ended with his success as a singer.
