American guitarist and singer Casey James was born in Princeton, Texas on May 31, 1982. After spending his early life in Princeton, he moved with his family to Cool, another city in the state of Texas. When he was a baby, he was given routine vaccination for various diseases including Pertussis or Whooping cough. Unfortunately, he had a severe reaction to this vaccination and remained under treatment for it for some time. The reaction was so severe that for some time doctors feared he might have had some brain damage. Nevertheless, according to his mother, the family was satisfied later when they saw the baby developing like normal babies, especially when James started humming even before he could talk. The mother believed he was going to develop significant musical abilities because of his keen interest in music at a very early age and his habit of humming along the songs.
Casey James grew up in Cool, Texas where he had ample time and resources to satisfy his interest in music. He learnt to play guitar soon after stepping into his teenage and excelled in this hobby so quickly that he was invited to play on stage before public just after one year. His family was very supportive in this regard, as his older brother Billy Cole and mother Debra Bybee James were both good singers. Billy helped James learn blues, while his mother helped him with his acoustic sets. After some years of practice, Casey James stepped into the world of professional singing and joined various local rock and country bands as a guitarist. He completed his education from Millsap High School, Forts Worth and decided to join music as a profession. Before 21 years of his age, he had already been working as a full time musician at various places in the area of Forts Worth.
An important turn in his life came at the age of 21, when he had a serious motorbike accident. James was severely injured in that accident and remained hospitalized for a long time. His surgeon, owing to his critical injuries at a point in time believed that it would be difficult for him to survive and even if he does, he would never be able to play guitar again. Nevertheless, fortunately the medical prediction did not prove to be correct as after some time Casey James was able to get up once again and amuse the world with his extra ordinary guitar playing skills.
Among the people whose work influenced Casey James are included Doyle Bramhall II, the blues guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Pearl Jam and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He often narrates that listening to these great musicians gives him motivation and encouragement to move forward and work harder in life.
Casey James formed the band Casey James and Crossover that lived for a short period of time. He recorded his first ever song as a song writer titled Freezing in 2002 with the same band, and recorded a total of four songs with the band. At the American Idol Season 9, he appeared as a contestant and was appreciated greatly by the public. His singing talent made him popular enough to survive up to the top 3 positions, but he was eliminated on May 19, 2010 and could not go any further. He was selected for the top 24 contestant positions as the oldest participant in terms of age, while he was 27 years old. Even after being eliminated at position 3 at the American Idol, his performance on Every Rose Has Its Thorn was liked greatly by the public.
