Buckcherry grew as a band when Josh Todd met lead guitarist Keith Nelson through a tattoo artist the two shared. They recorded a number of demos and were then joined by drummer Devin Glenn and bassist Jonathan Brightman. Their band’s first name was Sparrow and they began performing in a number of Hollywood clubs, gaining a large fan following due to an old school rock and roll like sound. They caught the attention of DreamWorks Records, to which they were signed, and then changed their name.
In 1999, Buckcherry released their first album, a self–titled release, that gained a lot of critical and commercial acclaim. It was soon certified gold and included such famous songs as Lit Up, Dead Again, For the Movies and Check Your Head. In 2002, the band went on hiatus but reunited in 2005 under original members Josh Todd and Keith Nelson, with three new musicians joining the band. In 2005, they released an album titled 15, to much critical acclaim and commercial success. It spawned such chart topping hits as Crazy Bitch, Everything, Sorry and Next 2 You. In 2008, they began touring as part of Crue Fest, by famous band Motley Crue, which also included such acts as Trapt, Papa Roach and Sixx:A.M. This tour kicked off in West Palm Beach, Florida and visited many American cities.
In 2008, they released another album, titled Black Butterfly, which ranked eighth on the Billboard Top 200 charts and was the number one rock album then. In 2009, they opened up for KISS in the iconic group’s US and Canada tour held in 2009 to 2010. They then went on to perform at the Kerrang! One of the singles from the album charted in the top ten of the Mainstream Rock radio chart. In 2011, they toured with All That Remains and Hellyeah as part of the Jagermeister Music Tour. Hailing from Los Angeles California, Buckcherry came in to formation after the lead vocalist of the band Josh Todd and Guitarist Keith Nelson bumped into each other. Since both of them shared the same kind of interests when it came to music, the pair started to work together and form a band. Later on the pair recruited Jonathan Brightman as the bassist of the band and Devon Glenn as drummer, but prior to that the duo recorded a few demo tapes. After the lineup of the band was completed, they decided to call themselves Sparrow. And soon the band was seen performing live in various local clubs and pubs, which helped them snatch good amount of local fan following, and apart from that they also landed their first record deal with DreamWorks Records sooner than later.
The band had to rename itself to Buckcherry after they were warned by a record company which was also named Sparrow. The band came up with their self titled debut studio album back in 1999, and met with critical and commercial success. Their debut album spawned the hits like Check Your Head, Lit Up and For the Movies, and helped Buckcherry establish itself as a mainstream act.
Buckcherry’s lineup finally came to its completion with the addition of Yogi Lonich as its rhythm guitarist back in 1999. After the release and success of their debut album, the band toured extensively in support of their album and finally made their return to the studios in 2000 to record their second studio album titled Time Bomb. Time Bomb was released in 2001, and as compared to their previous well received album, it was considered a bit disappointing. The album failed to spawn any charting hits as well as failing to earn the good reviews by most of the critics. Later on, tension started to rise between the band members and all of the original band members except for Todd and Nelson left the band. Although the band remained after all, but later Josh Todd also left the band in 2002; hence rendering the band, broken.
The band was reformed once again as Todd and Nelson decided to work together once again. After the patch up, the band once again headed to studio to record their third album “15” which was released in 2006. Apart from their studio releases, the band has also been performing regularly ever since its reformation, and has also performed at the Crue Fest, KISS US and Canada Tour and Kerrang! Week of Rock Tour.
The bands next studio album, Black Butterfly, peaked at #8 spot on the Top 200 Charts upon its release and debuted at the #1 spot in the week it was released. The band’s most recent album came out in 2010 and is titled All Night Long. Apart from that, Buckcherry has given numerous live performances all across the region. Now when they are ready for some more stimulating live shows, make sure that you have your Buckcherry Tickets beforehand.
