Bruce Springsteen is an amazingly talented singer and guitarist. He is world famous for his touching songwriting and deep set vocal. Bruce Springsteen a New Jersey native has been influenced by his hometown throughout his career. He has also been inducted in the New Jersey Hall of Fame. Inspired from Elvis Presley’s performance on the Ed Sullivan show Bruce Springsteen started singing. At thirteen he took up music seriously, and in 1965 joined the Castiles as a lead guitarist. Soon he became their lead vocalist, but the group broke up in 1967. Over the next few years, Springsteen was a member of the hard rock bands, Earth, Steel Mill before forming his own group Dr. Zoom & the Cosmic Boom which became the Bruce Springsteen band. This was also soon disbanded and he started performing as solo player. In 1972 his talent earned him a contract with Columbia.
His first two albums, Greetings and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle won good reviews. They were to become double platinum hits later on in his careers. In 1974 Springsteen established his backup group, the E Street Band. His first release with them, Born To Run was released in 1975. It was a tremendous success and these albums became a Top Ten hit and sold six million records. Resultantly both Newsweek and Time featured him on their covers in the same week. Springsteen’s next albums were Darkness on the Edge of which also reached the Top Ten. The album The River became a number one hit. But greater success was to follow with Born in the U.S.A.; with the Album selling fifteen million copies it became a number one position holder on the charts. Seven songs of the album also made it to the Top Ten Charts, winning him his first Grammy for the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. This was to become one of the best-selling albums of all time.
In 1986 Springsteen released Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live/1975-85. This albu went on to sell thirteen million copies and cemented his reputation as great live performer. After Tunnel of Love winning him a second Grammy, Springsteen broke up the E Street Band. The band reunited temporarily in 1995 and permanently in 1999. In this period he gave two more hit with Human Touch and Lucky Town. The song Streets of Philadelphia for the soundtrack of the Oscar winning movie, Philadelphia won four Grammy and the Academy Award for Best Song. He continued to produce hit albums and singles, along with extensively touring with his Band. In 1999 Bruce Springsteen was simultaneously inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The Rising inspired by the 9/11 incident became a hit number one and won two Grammys.
His later albums, We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, Devils & Dust and Magic were all number one hits and were followed by highly triumphant tours. Bruce Springsteen actively campaigned for Senator Barack Obama, performing at many rallies. The following album Working on a Dream was released in 2009. It was another hit at number one position and the accompanying tour won rave reviews from both critics and fans alike. His contribution to the 2009 movie The Wrestler, won a Golden Globe and a Critic’s Choice award for Best Song.
Bruce Springsteen has released seventeen studio albums have sold more than one hundred and twenty million Copies worldwide. He has won twenty Grammy, two Golden Globe and two Emmy awards as well as having a Planet named after him. He has been widely regarded as one of the best and most influential artists ever. The Rolling Stone Magazine in 2004 placed him at number twenty three in the list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and at number thirty six amongst the Greatest Singers Of All Time. Bruce Springsteen has also featured in similar list of Forbes and Time magazines.
