The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s music revolves around the genres of swing revival, jazz, jump blues and swing. The band rose to fame when they covered a song called Jump Jive and Wail by Louis Prima, which was featured in one of her albums named The Wildest! in the year 1957. The following single by the band, called Getting in the Mood also did wonders for their popularity, going on to become highly successful with the masses. Brian Setzer had an interest in music ever since he was in school, where he played the baritone horn. In the year 1990, he formed his orchestra which featured complete sections of drums, string bass, piano, a rhythm section with vocals and guitars by Setzer, saxophone and trombone players, trumpet and many more as well. The group started to play in various clubs around and inside Los Angeles, California, United States. They eventually became known around the underground scene and managed to get a recording contract with a recording label named Hollywood Records. The Brian Setzer Orchestra released their debut album in the year 1994. The record was titled The Brian Setzer Orchestra and went on to achieve great popularity with the audience as well as the critics. After the success of their first record, the band went on to release their second album in the year 1996. The album was named Guitar Slinger. This too gained a large amount of success. But it was not into the Swing Revival in the mid-90s that the band managed to gain national acclaim. The group switched from Hollywood Records to Interscope Records and changed their line up slightly, letting go of the piano player.

 

The Brian Setzer Orchestra released their third full length studio album in the year 1998 under the title of The Dirty Boogie. The album was a blend of swing standard cover songs and some original tracks and had a more hard edge compared to the former two records. One of the most popular cover that the band sang was Louis Prima's Jump Jive an' Wail. Following the success of the album, the band went on an extensive tour of the United States, and also went on several tours around the world.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra then set to work on their next album, which was named Vavoom! and was released in the year 2000.
