One of the most accomplished music directors and conductors bring you the finest genres of music played by the country’s best musicians. Boston Symphony Orchestra is all about the finest musicians coming together to play classical music as well as making your evenings delightful and enjoyable. Boston Symphony Orchestra is one of the most prominent orchestras in the country. Based in Boston, Massachusetts; it is one the five most prominent orchestras commonly known as the “big five.” With a history of music spanning over 130 years, this orchestra has had a reputation of undying musical creations this world has ever seen.

Founded in 1881 by the Henry Lee Higginson, the initial music directors of the orchestra were German until a series of unfortunate events occurred with the German music directors in the time of the World War I. The next few music directors had French origins and their compositions started gaining popularity day by day and that is the reason why the musical creations of the Boston Symphony still have a slight influence from French music. The orchestra’s reputation elevated when it came under the music directorship of Serge Koussevitzky. The musical creations of Serge Koussevitzky gathered a mass crowd of 1 million radio listeners in 1926 when the orchestra was supposed to perform in a live concert for a radio broadcast. With the orchestra creating musical masterpieces and gaining popularity day by day, the Boston Symphony Orchestra started giving regular performances on the radio. With a series of other music directors coming and presenting their musical creations; in 2004 James Levine was appointed as the music director of this celebrated orchestra. He also had the honor of being the first American music director and is still the orchestra’s music director.

Under James Levine, the orchestra’s musical masterpieces have been turning a lot of heads. Since the start of his career, Levine has been gathering critical acclaim for replenishing the quality and repertoire in his music. Levine has also had the honor of conducting at 12 out the 18 world premieres Boston Symphony Orchestra has played on. This phenomenal orchestra recorded its first electrical performance under the music directorship of Serge Koussevitzky in 1917. Their first acoustical recording included the legendary musician Tchaikovsky’s fourth symphony. In addition to their recordings, Boston Symphony Orchestra has also done recording for film scores. Their musical creations included producing musical scores for films like ‘Schindler’s list’ and ‘Saving Private Ryan.’ The musical creations under James Levine bagged this orchestra 2010 Grammy Award for Best Orchestral Performance.

Boston Symphony Orchestra plays most of its concerts in their symphony hall, the Boston Symphony Hall and in the summers it plays in the Tanglewood Music Center, established by their most famous music director Serge Koussevitzky. Originally it was known as Berkshire Music Center. In addition to playing classical music and creating superior musical masterpieces, Boston Symphony Orchestra’s offshoot also includes the Boston Pops Orchestra, which plays lighter and more popular classical music creations. The Boston Pops got their shot at fame under the conducting of Arthur Fiedler. He conducted the Boston Pops orchestra from 1930 to 1979.

Arthur Fiedler was succeeded by film composer John Williams who conducted the Boston Pops till 1993. Keith Lockhart is the current conductor of Boston Pops Orchestra. Another offshoot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus launched in 1964 and 1970 respectively.

Boston Symphony Orchestra is one of the most highly reputed and regarded orchestras in the world. Performing across the globe in over 250 concerts a year, the orchestra includes some of the finest music directors, conductors and musicians. Founded in 1881, the orchestra takes you to an unforgettable musical journey you could never possibly imagine.
