With the orchestra creating musical masterpieces and gaining popularity day by day, the Boston Symphony Orchestra started giving regular performances on the radio. With a series of other music directors coming and presenting their musical creations; in 2004 James Levine was appointed as the music director of this celebrated orchestra. He also had the honor of being the first American music director and is still the orchestra’s music director.

Boston Symphony Orchestra plays most of its concerts in their symphony hall, the Boston Symphony Hall and in the summers it plays in the Tanglewood Music Center, established by their most famous music director Serge Koussevitzky. Originally it was known as Berkshire Music Center. In addition to playing classical music and creating superior musical masterpieces, Boston Symphony Orchestra’s offshoot also includes the Boston Pops Orchestra, which plays lighter and more popular classical music creations. The Boston Pops got their shot at fame under the conducting of Arthur Fiedler. He conducted the Boston Pops orchestra from 1930 to 1979.

Arthur Fiedler was succeeded by film composer John Williams who conducted the Boston Pops till 1993. Keith Lockhart is the current conductor of Boston Pops Orchestra. Another offshoot of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus launched in 1964 and 1970 respectively.
