This was followed by the release of a self-titled album which won the band critical acclaim and broadened their fan base. Indie-Folk Has a New Face

In the last couple of years, the Indie-Folk music scene has seen some promising new artists. One of the most influential artists to come out of that genre has been Bon Iver. Derived from the French phrase bon hiver which means ‘good winter’, Bon Iver’s music has warmth and comfort to it, things that are essential in the cold of winter.

The name is fitting because it is in reference to when lead singer Justin Vernon spent three months in his father’s cabin in northwestern Wisconsin. During this time he began to write and record music.

From their debut release For Emma, Forever Ago to their self-titled album, Bon Iver received critical acclaim and numerous accolades. In 2012, they won Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album.
