One rock band that has literally been ruling the hearts of fans for quite some time now is none other than Blue October. This rock band has gained a reasonable fan base over the past years and their man genres are experimental rock, post-grunge and alternative rock. Till date, they have released six studio albums and three live albums, their most successful album till date is Foiled which was released in 2006. The band was formed in Houston, Texas in 1995 by singer/lyricist and guitar player Justin Furstenfeld and later on he was joined by bassist Matt Noveskey, drummer Jeremy Furstenfeld and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Delahoussaye. Blue October uses unusual style of vocals on some of its songs which is quite similar to singing of Richard Butler and Peter Gabriel. They are currently under contract with Brando Records before that they also had exclusive contract with music giants Universal Records. The band’s first album was called The Answers released by “RoDan Entertainments” which was being managed by Justin’s parents. The album’s response seemed promising as it sold 5000 copies alone in Houston and Blue October appeared on many local radio stations and also performed live on TV morning news.
Blue October’s second album was Consent to Treatment which was not a huge success but it did manage to help the band being noticed by some of the major recording labels. The third album History for Sale was released in 2003, this was purely an alternative rock album and received good reviews from critics with Rockworld.com giving the album full five stars and Sputnikmusic giving it four stars. This album also features famous female singer from Puerto Rico Zayra Alvarez. In 2006 came the bands fourth album Foiled, this was an instant hit with the fans and was certified 1x Platinum in both US and Canada with sales up to 1.3 million copies. Zayra Alvarez was hired for guest vocals again, this time she sung on the track “Into the Ocean”.
Approaching Normal was released in 2009 and this was Blue October's fifth album, it was moderately successful and went on to #13 on US Charts. Blue October has already completed all the work on the next album called Any Man in America and this album will be released pretty soon. The album is being produced by seasoned producer Tim Palmer who has worked with famous artists like Robert Plant, Pearl Jam, The Cure, U2 and David Bowie. The album is being released under the label of RED Distribution. The three live albums by Blue October are Argue with a Tree (2004), Foiled for the Last Time (2007) and more recently in 2011 they released their third album Ugly Side: An Acoustic Evening With Blue October.
Blue October's songs have been featured in the soundtrack of various movies and TV series. Their song “Calling You” was featured on the soundtrack of the movie American Wedding, “Drilled a Wire Through My Cheek” is the seventh track on the soundtrack of horror movie Saw 111. Their song “Hate Me” was featured in season 3 of MTV reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, “Into the Ocean” was featured on one of the episodes of Sopranos final season. Supernatural drama series Ghost Whisperers featured Blue Ocean’s song “Congratulations”, TV series Life is Wild featured the single “Calling You”. One of their singles “Hate Me” from the album Foiled was at #13 on US Adult Top 40 and on #2 on US Modern Rock Charts.
