A musician, author, activist, comedian, and television producer, Bill Cosby has been recognized for his multiple talents and his dedicated service, especially in the field of education and humanities. Cosby received his PhD in Education from the University of Massachusetts and has also been granted honorary doctorate degrees from many Universities and colleges. In 1969 Harvard University's legendary performance group Hasty Pudding Theatricals awarded Bill Cosby the highly prestigious "Man of the Year" title. Bill Cosby's many honors include the 1998 Kennedy Center Honors, the 2002 Presidential Medal of Freedom and the 2003 Bob Hope Humanitarian award. He ranked among the 50 top comedians by comedy insiders and fellow comedians in Britain who voted for the 2005 poll to find The Comedian's Comedian.
Bill Cosby had been a stand-up performer at clubs and smaller venues in the 60's before his full-scale career was launched when he starred in the action show I Spy. The Bill Cosby Show, a TV series, gave his career the initial boost it needed. Cosby played a major character in the TV show for kids known as The Electric Company in its first two season. He later created his own hilarious as well as educational cartoon series called Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. Bill Cosby's sitcom The Cosby Show was an all time hit and came to define the sitcom in the eighties.
More recently, Cosby has come to be known for shows such as Kids Say the Darndest Things, which has spawned similar versions in many countries, and Little Bill, a popular TV show for children which deals with the concerns of a preschooler. Bill Cosby has also starred in a number of films.
