In 2002 Benny Benassi became the rage with his sensational music. This Italian DJ has rocked thousands at some of the biggest music festivals across the US; from Miami's Ultra Music Festival to California's Coachella and Tennessee's Bonnaroo. Though Benny Benassi may have spent his growing years in a town that time forgot somewhere in Italy, he soon started building up his disc jockeying skills alongside his cousin Alle Benassi towards the end of the eighties, calling their joint act as the Benassi Brothers. However, Benny soon came into his own element when he started working at the Off Limits studio owned by music producer Larry Pignagnoli and earned his mixing credentials by working with the likes of Ally & Jo, J.K. and Whitfield during the 1990s.
Benny Benassi gained widespread acclaim right off the hook in 2001 with his debut single "I Feel So Fine" that featured Dhanny's vocals. The track shot straight up the charts in his native country and then exploded across the UK dance scene, going #1 on the club charts. Originally infusing a house style in his recordings, Benny opted to inject electro in his 2002 single "Satisfaction" with smashing success. The song from his first studio album Hypnotica and featuring The Biz on vocals, went top-ten in several countries, peaking at the 2nd spot on the UK Singles chart and being certified gold in the US, France, Australia and Belgium. The song's video played a major role in its explosive popularity, what with scantily clad women working with power tools in some of the most suggestive poses. It certainly played upon the album's central theme of harmonic hypnotism, pumping it up to the max and propelling Hypnotica to clinch a "European Border Breakers" award in 2004 for garnering the most sales for that year of an Italian album outside its borders. Benny also entered the prestigious DJ Mag's poll of the world's "Top 100 DJs" the same year, making his debut at the highest entry of 18.
Benny Benassi's fast growing fame soon materialized into collaborations with Felix da Housecat, Goldfrapp and the rap act Outkast. His remix of "Bring the Noise" by the legendary hip hop entity Public Enemy was a phenomenal success and clinched the 2007 Grammy for "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical." The following year, his album Rock'N'Rave proved to be his first major commercially successful record, climbing to number 37 on the Top Heetseekers chart and knocking on the top-ten slot of the Top Electronic Albums one at 11. Tracks from the album such as "Who's Your Daddy," "I Love My Sex," "Here and Now" and the title track were reminiscent of the thumping and grinding sound of the "Satisfaction" days yet had a more space-age feel to it.
However, 2011's record Electroman literally blasted into outer space, what with the single "Spaceship" featuring the auto-tuned likes of Jean-Baptiste, apl.de.ap and Kelis preaching the listeners to get so "high" that they feel that they are at the top of the world; a funny way to promote stuff such as LSD and MDMA indeed. But then again, Benny Benassi has recently played his part to the hilt in producing three tracks for another musically engineered pitch for popularizing the psychotropic stuff by none other than the kabalistic high priestess Madonna, titled MDNA. So score some Benny Benassi tickets to get with the house programming and be blown away by his electro salvo.
