Ben Taylor is an actor and singer from Marion, Massachusetts. He is a folk and punk performer who not only works as a singer, but a songwriter, a record producer, a sound engineer and an instrument programmer. He has received this immense talent from his family, for both his parents were famous singers in their own record. His mother is Carly Simon, the Oscar and Grammy winning singer who is known for hits such as “You’re So Vain”. And his father is James Taylor, also a multiple Grammy winner who has sold as many as 10 million records and has earned a lot of respect in his genre.
Moreover, Ben Taylor’s sister, Sally is also a popular singer. Coming from such a musically strong family, he has often felt the pressure to be just as amazing. To ward it off, he has tried really hard to separate his name from that of his family. Nevertheless, since he performs in the same genre as his parents and siblings, he cannot completely avoid the inevitable comparison. This phenomenon is amplified whenever he performs side by side with his father or tours with him. Currently, he is on a mission of his own, performing at various clubs and small venues. Ben Taylor tickets for any of these various events can be easily found.
As a child, Taylor went to martial arts classes. He trained in many different disciplines and became an expert in all of them. He is actually quite good in the field as well, so much so, that he was featured in the “Black Belt Magazine”. The story described how he was competent in Qi Gong, having extensively trained for it, as well as the other disciplines such as kung fu, and “t’ai chi chu’uan”.
When he first set out to make an album, he wanted to select a genre of music that would stand out from the rest of his family. Thus he started working with some of his close friends, Larry Ciancia and Adam MacDougall who got together and started what would later on be known as the “Ben Taylor Band”. With this group, he would play in the psychedelic rock genre, sometimes experimenting with funk and soft rock. It was with this style of music that he dove into his first CD, an EP called “Famous Among the Barns”. This became his first known, recorded work. However, soon enough his instincts set in and he began to realize that he cannot forgo the music style that has been integrated into his creative mind since the day he was born. This was the music his parents were playing—folk with streaks of funk and pop. He could fight these instincts for as much as he would like, but the fact would remain that as far as he is with the band, he is not representing his true self, the artist within. Being part of the group would end up seeming more of an act of rebellion, undertaken so he could prove that he has his own voice. Thus with the second album, he decided to stick with what he knew best. He stripped down the gimmicks and stuck to a more acoustic style, which although was in line with what the rest of his family was doing, it was also true to him. The results were poles apart from the first album. With that particular project, he had to try really hard to sound good; with the new one, the music can naturally to him. On this new record, his family made their contributions as well. His mother and the sister did a back up vocal while his father played some instruments in some of the songs. Also a part of the album was Kevin Bacon, who also served as the producer and Larry Ciancia, who was the drummer.
Other than his work as a musician, Ben Taylor has also indulged in some acting. He played Cal Cooper in the 2004 film, “American Dreams”. He had a recurring role in a British television show by the name of “Always and Everyone” as well. His songs have also been used as jingles for various commercials. The most recent example of this is the Canadian ad for “Honey Nut Cheerios” which featured his version of the Macy Gray song, “I Try”.
His profession aside, Taylor is also dedicated to his philanthropy work. A part of all Ben Taylor tickets are donated to the charities that he supports.
