Ben Sollee was born on 28th November, 1983. He was brought up in Lexington and he fell in love with the cello at a very early age. He began playing the instrument during his elementary school days. It was in the year 2005 that Ben Sollee teamed up with Bela Fleck, Abigail Washington and Casey Driessen to create The Sparrow Quartet. They spent the first three years playing on a small scale. Slowly but surely they started to generate some headlines which paved the way for the release of their debut album Abigail Washington & The Sparrow Quartet in May, 2008. That same month Ben came out with his first solo release as well. It was an EP which was titled “If You’re Gonna Lead My Country”. Next month saw him coming out with his first full album “Learning to Bend”. The album was met with a lot of positive acclaim from every corner. “Learning to Blend” was a mixture of various genres and sounds. It was acoustic as well as jazz and folk oriented. The efforts were appreciated by everyone across the board and it signaled the arrival of Ben Sollee as a star.
 
In 2009, he went on a sensational road trip with the Vienna Teng Trio. That was followed by another tour in November same year. Ben was accompanied on the journey by his friend Kim Taylor. Two days after Valentine’s Day 2010, Ben Sollee came out with Dear Companion. It was another scintillating album. Ben and Daniel Martin Moore were the writers and the performers of the tracks. Dear Companion focused on the effect the mountain top coal mining operation was to have on the natives and the legacy of Appalachia. It turned out to be another big hit that made its debut by capturing the sixth place on charts in U.S. The succession of hits he had accumulated over the past few years brought offers to perform at some of the biggest events in the music world. One such invitation came from the management of the legendary Bonnaroo Music Festival and Ben took the stage of this amazing event in June, 2011.
