Bellydancers perform in a unique style and wear various costumes in different countries and region. Costume plays a very important role in bellydance. It includes a tight fitted top with a tassel of coins or beads, a fixed hip-belt either sewn in or separate from the skirt, that also with a fringe of coins or beads. Different countries have their own bellydancing costumes; such as, in Greece the costume is simple, white in color with golden tapes. Normally the dress is linked to the Greek Goddess. In Lebanon, there is no ban on showing belly; the skirts are likely to be sheer revealing more of the bellydancers’ body. Though the modern styles of dance have been performed by women in general; various dances such as cane dances were originated by male performers.
