Belle and Sebastian was formed in 1996 in Scotland and is often compared with acts like The Smiths, Nick Drake and Bob Dylan. The group came up with its first record Tigermilk in 1996 which was critically acclaimed and turned out to be a sensation though it sold only thousand copies. The album earned the group immense fame through word of mouth all over England. The ensemble consists of the members Stuart Murdoch, the lead vocalist and guitarist, Stevie Jackson the acoustic guitarist, Chris Geddes on keyboard, and Richard Colburn the drummer and percussionist. Sarah Martin is also the vocalist, Mick Cooke plays bass and trumpet and Bobby Kildea serves as the bassist.
With the release of its second album, the group grew famous not only in England but also in America. The band started its American tour and received appreciation by the fans and critics. The ensemble produced incredible singles like "I'm a Cuckoo" and "Step into My Office". The band members visited Palestinian and Israel in 2005 and subsequently recorded a track, "The Eighth Station of the Cross Kebab House" as an inspiration from the trip. During this time, the members started recording another album The Life Pursuit, which became the highest charting release by Belle and Sebastian. The album peaked at number eight in UK and number sixty five on the US Billboard 200. The preceding song "Funny Little Frog" was the highest charting song of the group, debuting at number thirteen.
The hard work and struggles of the members proved fruitful and Belle and Sebastian received ‘Best Newcomer Award’. The ensemble performed for 30,000 people in 2010 in UK during the Latitude Festival. The band played its two new songs "I'm Not Living in the Real World" and "I Didn't See It Coming". In February of 2013, a one hour documentary was released by Pitchfork TV about the band’s 1996 record "If You're Feeling Sinister". The documentary features interviews of each member and also many videos as well as archival photos from the early days of the group. Belle and Sebastian Announce New Tour Dates
The Scottish group, Belle and Sebastian has revealed new tour dates. The band is scheduled to begin the trek in February by performing their first show at the De Roma in Antwerp. They will then go on to play a series of shows throughout Europe in cities including Paris, Nantes, Munich and Liverpool. The seven-piece group also plans to bring their shows to North America in June and will be performing their first gig in the continent at the State Theatre in Portland. Belle and Sebastian will then go on to play many shows before they end the road trip by rocking the stage at the Oregon Zoo Amphitheatre in Portland.
