The members of Bastille include Chris Wood (backing vocals and drums), Kyle Simmons (Percussion, bass, backing vocals and keyboards), William Farquarson (keyboards, bass, backing vocals and acoustic guitar) and the band founder, Dan Smith (keyboards, producer, percussion and lead vocals).

The founder of the group, Dan Smith started writing songs at the age of fifteen after being inspired from Simon and Garfunkel’s The Only Living Boy in New York. “My practice of writing songs was a secret and none of my friends or family members knew it,” he disclosed during an interview.

Icarus was the debut track released by the band in June 2010 by the Young and Lost Club in London. With this release, the group released the extended play of Laura Palmer the following year. Bastille gained widespread popularity after uploading their songs on MySpace and YouTube.

After becoming popular on social media, Bastille started to perform at important UK festivals including Blissfields, the Isle of Weight and Glastonbury. They composed music for TV commercials as well. Overjoyed was the band’s first release in April, 2012 by Virgin Records. Q Magazine presented this track as the ‘Track of the Day’ for their March 7, 2012 edition. Bad Blood was a title song of another album and this song ranked 90 on the UK charts, making it their first entry on the charts.

The Guardian named Bastille as ‘New Band of the Day’ in July 2012. The band’s third single, Flaws was released in 2012. It became a great success. The song reached number 21 on the UK top 40 list. In addition to that, the band also performed at various festivals across the United Kingdom including Leeds and Reading. They also supported the British singer and songwriter, Emeli Sande.

Pompeii, the fourth single released by the band from Bad Blood, ranked number two on the UK charts and the album topped the UK Album Charts. Once during an interview, it was disclosed by Dan Smith that Laura Palmer was the fifth release by the band and according to him, it was released in June, 2013. Things We Lost in the Fire, released in August 2013, was the last single from their debut album. It was in September 2013 when the band released the album Bad Blood officially.

Of the Night was their new single, released on 9th October, 2013. To date, the band has released two albums, Bad Blood and All This Bad Blood. The second album was released in November. Besides the band members, Tom Middleton is associated with the group as Filmographer, Paul Cooper as Live Engineer, Martin McAndrew as Stage Crew, Will Dart as Live Engineer, Dick Meredith as Tour Manager and Ben Kingman as Monitor Engineer.

Polly Comber, who is the manager of the band has termed Miles and Nick experienced enough to take the band to the heights of fame and popularity. “With Virgin Records as our record label, we have been able to compose our singles in perfect beat and rhythms,” she said.
