The name of the band takes its basis from a song by Sublime, which was featured on their album. 40oz. Their music revolves around the genres of dub, alternative rock, reggae and ska punk.
 
Badfish have gone on numerous tours over the course of their career. They have also won several awards. They received the nomination for the Best Tribute Act in the year 2008 at the Boston Music Awards. In the year 2006, the band gave approximately one hundred and fifty two performances all across the United States. Some of the members of the band are also part of other groups such as Scotty Don't. Originally belonging from California, United States, the group has played all over the country. They appeared at Missouri for a concert in the year 2010. They also gave a performance in New Jersey at the Hoodwink festival in the year 2009.
 
Badfish pay tribute to one of the most successful ska punk bands the country has seen, Sublime. Founded in the year 1988 in Long Beach, California, United States, Sublime consisted of Bud Gaugh on the percussion and drums, Eric Wilson on the bass guitar, and Bradley Nowell on the lead guitars and vocals. The group have several recordings to their credit, such as a box set, three EPs, five compilation albums, one live record and three studio albums.
 
The most successful and popular album of Sublime was released in the year 1996 and was self titled. It went on to be ranked at the number thirteen on the Billboard 200. It also produced one of their most popular singles, What I Got. The song topped the Billboard Alternative Songs charts and became a major success. The band broke up shortly fterward but they still have a large fan following all over the world.
