The band was formed back 1993, when the original band members of the group auditioned in front of Lou Pearlman, who was looking to form a boy band at that time. After Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson auditioned in front of Pearlman, they came out to be exactly what Pearlman was looking for. Later on Pearlman went to Bob Curiano for writing some songs for the newly formed band, which was followed by Backstreet Boys performance in front of the A&R Representatives. After which the group managed to land their first record deal with Jive Records.
Before releasing the debut album, Backstreet Boys released their debut single titled “We’ve Got It Goin’ On”. Initially the single was only released on radio, but later it was released properly. Although it wasn’t much of a success in U.S but it still helped the band in getting some attention, however in Europe, the single broke into the Top 5 of the music charts. The band’s self titled debut album surfaced in the markets on May 6, 1996. After the release, Backstreet boys became the hottest pop act in entire Europe. The album was a huge success all across Europe and went platinum in Germany. So with the release of their debut album, Backstreet Boys achieved international fame instantly. Soon after the band started working on their second studio album titled Backstreet’s Back. The band wasn’t really able to do as good as they did in Europe with their debut album, but their second studio album brought luck for the band in U.S as well. As soon they released “Quit Playing Games with My Heart”, the song was everywhere in U.S, and eventually it went on to receive platinum status. Since the band didn’t get good response from U.S and Canadian market, they didn’t release their debut album in both countries, but later in 1997, as they released their second album internationally; Backstreet boys made their U.S Debut with a self titled album which contained songs from both of their albums. Group’s U.S debut came out to be a huge success, as the album peaked at #4 Spot U.S Albums Chart. While on the other end of the world, their second international release was nothing less than successful and it peaked at #1 spot on various countries including Switzerland, Finland, Austria and Germany. After a sold out world tour, the group went into the studio once again to record their third studio album titled Millennium. Before releasing the album, the band released “I want it that way” as their first single, which was a huge international success. With high anticipations from the fans and critics alike, the album finally hit the stores on May 18, 1999. Millennium knocked everyone off the music charts across the globe and took its spot at #1. The album sold more than a million copies in its debut week and became the best selling album of the year. All the four singles from the album also peaked at #1 spot. The album kept its place on the charts for amazing 93 weeks and earned the 13x Platinum status. The album that followed Millennium was titled Black & Blue and was released in 2000, after which the band went on a three year hiatus. The group got back together once again and released Never Gone as their comeback album in 2005. Never Gone was then followed by their sixth international studio album titled “Unbreakable”. The band’s most recent album is titled “This is Us” and it was released in 2009. Although the group is known for their recording success; their live performances also speak for themselves.
